Update: This performance has been postponed until Friday, August 16.
Philadelphia’s beloved contemporary dance troupe Philadanco celebrates its dynamic founder, Joan Myers Brown, with its second annual Founders Day Concert and benefit performance this Friday, August 9, in beautiful Fairmount Park.
This year, the concert also presents the opportunity for the entire city to mark a momentous occasion for Brown and Philadanco.
Just last month, Brown received the incredible honor of being awarded the National Medal of the Arts by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
Launched by Brown as a dance school in 1970, Philadanco has evolved into internationally acclaimed dance troupe, traveling the world with its signature blend of athleticism, musicality and technique.
With the company’s busy touring schedule, Philadelphia is really only presented with a handful of opportunities to catch Philadanco on its home turf.
This Friday, join in the fete for the fabulous Brown at the Dell Music Center with Dance for the City, a program featuring works from Philadanco’s repertoire, performances by the company’s youth troupes and special guest artists.
Tickets are available online, and seating is still available.
Truly, don’t pass up this occasion to honor and support one of the great treasures of Philadelphia’s performing arts community.
