Take a big bite out of the holiday weekend and devour oodles of chicken wings at Wing King 5, a festive cook-off event at Fleisher Art Memorial set for this Saturday, August 31.

Now in its fifth year, Wing King (a.k.a. Cinco de Gallo) pits more than 20 cooks against one another to determine whose wing recipe flies above the rest.

From classic hot wings to wacky butterscotch green tea wings, expect a wide range of creative flavors to be put forth by contenders vying for the first-place trophy and, of course, bragging rights.

Judging the contenders barbecue brilliance, the annual event welcomes judges Emilio Mignucci of Di Bruno Bros., Chad Williams of the coming-soon Fairmount Grocery, Doug Allen of Lacroix, Josh Schonewolf of Josh Can’t Cook and Philadelphia food writer Drew Lazor.

Come out to taste-test the entrants’ recipes, jam to tunes by DJ Ultraviolet and enjoy free Narragansett beer (while supplies last).

Tickets are available online, and come in at just $15 for wing tasting, beer, music and more, with a portion of the proceeds going towards educational programming at Fleisher Art Memorial.

Want to put your best wing forward? A few spots remain for brave competitors to enter the cooking competition, and registration is available online.

May the best wing win.
