We hate to be the bearer of sad news, folks, but Friday, October 11 is the final day for this year’s PHS Pop-Up Garden.
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s verdant beer garden on the Avenue of the Arts has been a seriously excellent alfresco destination, and we are truly sorry to see it dismantled (say it ain’t so!).
More popular than ever, this third annual installation of PHS’ Pop-Up Garden initiative has bloomed all summer long in a once-vacant lot on South Broad Street just across from the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of the University of the Arts.
Though the pop-up concept has been a big hit for PHS for the past three summers, this season’s addition of food and — perhaps more importantly — beer transformed the pop-up garden from a sweet stop to an all-night hangout.
The garden saw live performances, cool quizzo nights and, frequently, long lines of garden-goers waiting to get in and partake of the alfresco good times.
This Friday, a festive closing soiree closes out the season, with festivities kicking off at 5:30 p.m. Join in the celebration of a truly awesome season with a refreshing cocktail, light bites from Chipotle Mexican Grill and a photo presentation commemorating the 2013 season.
Note that the event is rain or shine, but for more information, visit www.PHSonline.org.
So, dry your eyes and raise one last pint in the PHS Pop-Up Garden.
Remember, PHS will be back next summer with another pop-up garden in a new location!
