DesignPhiladelphia, the annual city-wide celebration honoring the historic role of design in the Philadelphia region while showcasing creative innovation yet to come, returns this week, October 10-18.
With more than 120 events over nine days, the festival is set to present an incredible range of programming from symposia and round table discussions to street parties, exhibitions and public installations, and we’ve got a list of some of the major happenings right here.
But no matter what your design interests are, one event you’ll want to make sure you’re a part of is the bash that kicks the whole festival off.
Help launch the 2013 DesignPhiladelphia Festival with an incredible party-going experience, Pop-Up Place Cocktail Party + Benefit, tonight, Wednesday, October 9 from 6 p.m. all the way until midnight.
The main event, hosted by multidisciplinary design studio bahdeebahdu, is set to include art exhibitions and installations like a participatory olfactory performance, a light installation, a textile installation and more.
Tunes from the Heath Allen Trio and the West Powelton Steppers will keep the crowd moving, and food and drink by 12th Street Catering, Little Baby’s Ice Cream, Whipped Bakeshop and Illy will keep attendees well fed.
After the main event, what promises to be a high-energy after party will go off at American Street Studio, a former PECO substation that is now home to the collaborative showroom of Philadelphia-based companies Amuneal, Groundwork and Robert True Ogden.
Yet more dynamic entertainment keeps the party going well into the night — punctuated by a performance from King Britt. Tickets for the after party are available online.
Tickets for Pop-Up Place and the after party are available online and at the door.
Don’t miss out on one of the best parties of the season.
