Prepare your taste buds, Philadelphia.
The first Philadelphia Bacon and Beer Festival arrives this December, celebrating the epicurean delights of cured meats and fermented beverages.
Mark your calendars for the afternoon of Sunday, December 8, when bacon-and-beer lovers will gather for a two-and-a-half-hour feasting frenzy at the swanky Hotel Monaco Philadelphia in Old City.
Organized locally by @eatboston, Philadelphia food writer and photographer Danya Henninger, and Rolling Barrel Events, the food fest originated in Boston in 2010, and has since expanded to Denver and San Francisco.
Not only a grand pig out, the events also include a charitable component. In Philadelphia, at least half of the proceeds will go to MANNA (Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance), a local non-profit organization devoted to providing meals and nutrition counseling to those battling life-threatening illnesses.
For a $45 ticket, festivalgoers can sup and sip unlimited samples from more than a dozen local restaurants and regional breweries.
The all-star culinary lineup includes such pork-proficient spots as Alla Spina, Brauhaus Schmitz and Standard Tap, while the brewery roster includes Victory Brewing Company, Tröegs Brewery and newcomer Barren Hill Tavern & Brewery. Check out the full lineup of participants here and below.
As for the bacon, Landsdowne-based 1732 Meats, producers of craft charcuterie, is set to provide the cured pork portion of the spread, unless a restaurant prefers to cure their own cuts.
Ready to belly up for bacon? Tickets for the fest are available online starting on Wednesday, November 13 at 10 a.m.
We advise setting a reminder, folks.
Tickets for the past three Boston events have sold out in around five minutes, and this inaugural Philadelphia event is a quarter of the size.
