Every Saturday between now and Christmas, tons of holiday cheer takes over Main Street and Canal View Park in Manayunk.

On Saturday, December 7, Manayunk’s resident Christmas tree illuminates for the season with a festive tree lighting ceremony complete with Christmas carols, hot chocolate and other holiday performances in Canal View Park beginning at 6 p.m. Also on December 7, Santa Claus visits the neighborhood park to partake in the festivities. Beginning at 3 p.m., watch residents carve a special ice sleigh for Santa Claus as he arrives for holiday photos at 4 p.m. Also groove to live music provided by B101.

On Saturday, December 14 from 4 to 7 p.m., spend some more time with Santa Claus as he revisits Main Street Manayunk for a final holiday photo session. Also take up the opportunity to visit Main Street and get any last minute Christmas shopping done.

The final holiday Saturday is December 21 as Manayunk presents its Manayunk Solstice Fire, a celebration of the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year and the first day of winter. From 3 to 6 p.m., join the celebration of the return of evening light in Canal View Park. Learn about area birds and how they prepare for winter, enjoy a drum circle and end the evening with the lighting of torches and fires to acknowledge the coming of longer days.

Plus, on December 7 and 14 from noon to 7 p.m., enjoy free rides on Santa’s trolley along Main Street from Leverington to Ridge avenues. Hop on or off at any point along the ride.
