Get a taste of nature without stepping foot outside of the city limits.
For the past month, The Academy of Natural Science’s hands-on children’s nature center, Outside In, has been closed for updates and is slated to reopen on Saturday, February 8 with more activities than ever before.
The makeover includes aesthetic updates like new carpeting, lighting and paint in addition to updated hands-on activities for children.
Look forward to an Eagles nest that children are encouraged to climb into, an updated sandy beach with shells, a life-size tree with hidden animals, a nature lab, a microscope for an up-close look at natural items, costumes for dress up, new housing for the animals, books and a stereo that provides nature appropriate music.
Also at Outside In, children are invited to get hands-on and touch real-live cockroaches, lizards and more.
Explore nature with a fully-functional beehive complete with a honey-making activity, a pond with live fish and a boat and an area to pan for shark teeth.
Outside In opened in 1979 and has since remained a staple for nature exploration for children (and their parents!).
Celebrate the improvements and get a taste of nature right on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
