Plazapalooza is one of many spring festivals hitting the city this Saturday, May 3 — a day we’ve dubbed Super Spring Saturday due to the mass of awesome events all taking place on a single day.
More about Super Spring Saturday below, but first, more about Plazapalooza.
Plazapalooza takes place at the Grays Ferry Triangle located just below the intersection of 23rd and South Streets in Graduate Hospital, right across the street from Grace Tavern.
From 1 to 7 p.m., enjoy an afternoon of live music, family fun, food, beer and more. Sit back and take in performances by the South Street Sounds Students, Odunde 365 African Dance and Drummers and more.
A number of the city’s food trucks are slated to be on hand as well. Look forward to bites from Poi Dog Snack Shop, Undrgrnd Donuts, Tacos Don Memo and local BBQ shop, Phoebe’s.
The festival actually serves as fundraiser each year for the Grays Ferry Triangle, and this year it marks a really big occasion for the triangle and the entire Graduate Hospital neighborhood as the event will serve as the launch for the brand new Grays Ferry Triangle Pedestrian Plaza.
Grays Ferry Triangle Pedestrian Plaza
This year, we are especially excited about Plazapalooza because it kicks off a six-month pilot project that is turning the Grays Ferry Triangle into a pedestrian plaza complete with tables and chairs for sitting, eating and hanging, adirondack chairs for lounging, planters and more.
The Grays Ferry Triangle is already a well-used anchor of Graduate Hospital and is a very popular neighborhood gathering spot. So we can’t wait for the new pedestrian plaza. It’s going to take a good public space and make it a great public space.
You’ll be able to stop there to hang after picking up a coffee at nearby Ants Pants, or a fro-yo at Igloo, or a water ice from Rita’s, or a slice from Omega, or a snack from the forthcoming Green Aisle(!), etc. You get the idea. It’s going to be cool.
Super Spring Saturday – May 3
As we alluded to earlier, Plazapalooza is one of the many festivals on tap for Saturday, May 3, otherwise known as “Super Spring Saturday.” Plazapalooza is a relatively smaller festival compared to some of the other blockbuster festivals, so it’s a cool place to start before heading to over to some of the big guys like South Street Spring Festival, the Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival and the Philadelphia Science Festival’s Carnival.
