If every scholarship fundraiser came with the promise of a moon bounce and face painting, we’d might all get art classes for free. Luckily, the Portside Arts Center gets it right, and puts the “fun” in fundraising with its annual Lehigh Avenue Arts Festival.
Now it its seventh year, the fest pops up on Lehigh Avenue in the Fishtown/Port Richmond neighborhood on Saturday, April 26 from noon until 8 p.m. with dozens of than artisan vendors, food trucks, and live local music.
The day-long arts fest is Portside Arts Center’s biggest outdoor event, and welcomes a great range of talented local artists and makers to exhibit and sell goods, as well as fun-for-all happenings like an antique car show, kids crafts, interactive art projects, raffles, a moon bounce and more.
This year, the annual arts fest is set to blow up with The Philly Puff, the city’s first-ever inflatable sculpture contest. Philly Puff pits local artists in a juried contest that swells to full size from 2 to 4 p.m.
Judges include contemporary arts experts from the Fabric Workshop & Museum and the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym, and five categories of winners — including a People’s Choice Award — take home prizes including inflatable trophies and $50 cash.
