Update: Philly Tech Week’s Kick-Off Event Arcade @ The Oval And Tetris On The Cira Centre Moved To Saturday, April 5

Heads up, gamers.

Due to the cloudy skies in the forecast for this evening, the Philly Tech Week 2014 kickoff party — Arcade @ The Oval — has been postponed until Saturday, April 5.

Originally scheduled to go off tonight, the rainy weather would put a serious damper on Arcade @ The Oval’s centerpiece — a giant game of Tetris played on the sides of the Cira Centre.

Rest assured, though, only the date has changed and all of the festival details remain the same.

The team who brought us a game of giant Pong on the side of the Cira Centre last year returns to top its triumph and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tetris with a great gaming festival, kicking off at 7 p.m. and running until 10:30 p.m.

Arcade @ The Oval invites one and all to celebrate Philadelphia’s dynamic technology community with games, local app demos, live performances, a lineup of 10 food trucks, a Yards Brewing Company beer garden, and views of the giant Tetris game.

This year, Drexel University’s Dr. Frank Lee will launch the giant two-sided game of Tetris, occupying more than 100,000 square feet of Brandywine Realty Trust’s 29-story Cira Centre and creating the Guinness World Record-certified world’s tallest video game.

The massive game will take up both sides of the Cira Centre and players will square off from opposite sides of the city, with one player at Eakins Oval on the north side of the building and the other stationed on the south side, in addition to playing a cooperative version of the game in pairs.

Festivities at The Oval include food truck fare from Foo Truck, Delicias, Sweet Box Cupcakes, Surf N Turf, Mucho Bueno, Sum Pig, Just Jackie’s, Cow and the Curd, Tot Cart and Little Pop Shop.

Plus, festivalgoers can enjoy live performances from three bands, play a full lineup of games created by local developers and engage with community organizations like The Franklin Institute and The Free Library.
