Tonight Picks: Taste Of University City Dining Days At The Porch, World Cup Kick-off Parties, Free Beer And Cheese Happy Hour At Di Bruno Brothers And More

University City jumps starts its summer programming with an evening of delicious food and drink samples at its Taste of University City Dining Days, a precursor to its University City Dining Days event in July. Visit the Porch at 30th Street Station for bites from a number of University City restaurants and some live music.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup kicks off today at 4 p.m. and a number of bars are hosting one-night-only events and drink specials in celebration of the big game.

Di Bruno Brothers continues to treat guests to free beer and cheese pairings at its Franklin Market location this evening. Stop by from 5 to 7 p.m. for free sips from Naked Brewing Company and plenty of cheese to boot.

Due to the rainy weather tonight, the Schuylkill Banks’ first outdoor movie night of the season has been canceled. No need to fear, the rain date for tonight’s movie is July 3, and Despicable Me is slated to fill the screen at Grays Ferry Crescent next Thursday night.

Taste of University City Dining Days: The rain isn’t stopping the folks at the University City district from hosting their Taste of University City event at The Porch at 30th Street station. Before the full-fledged University City Dining Days event launches in July, enjoy a smattering of samples from key University City Dining Days participants. For $10, get 10 food, beer or wine samples to try out restaurants before making a Dining Days reservation. Tickets for samples will be available onsite and are cash only. In addition to the sips and snacks, guests can enter a raffle and hear some live music. The event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. and will take place under a tent.

FIFA World Cup Kickoff Party at Fado Irish Pub: It’s day one of the hotly-anticipated World Cup soccer tournament in Brazil. Fado, one of Philly’s favorite soccer bars, gets in on the action with a kickoff party to celebrate the 4 p.m. Brazil vs. Croatia game. The festivities started at 2:30 p.m., but all throughout the game enjoy a special match day menu featuring food and drink specials.

FIFA World Cup Kickoff Party at Plough and the Stars: Plough and the Stars in Old City celebrates day one of the World Cup with a watch party today at 4 p.m. Enjoy drink specials and giveaways during the first game, which begins today at 4 p.m.

Free Beer and Cheese Happy Hour at Di Bruno Bros.: Di Bruno Bros. at Franklin Market raises a hat to Thursday as it hosts its weekly free beer and cheese happy hour. Tonight, sip samples from Naked Brewing Company and nosh on perfectly paired cheese, too. Happy hour is from 5 to 7 p.m. and is completely free.
