The fourth of July in Philadelphia means fireworks shows, parades, festivals, an epic free concert and much more. (Bottom left photo Wawa Welcome America, others G. Widman for Visit Philadelphia)
Happy July 4th, Philadelphia!
As the holiday weekend approaches, fireworks, parades, free concerts and more fill every corner of the city — and the countryside, too.
Two major fireworks shows illuminate the sky over the course of the next few days.
First, Wawa Welcome America closes out with its epic fireworks display on July 4th above the Philadelphia Museum of Art (at about 10:30 p.m.) following the 4th of July Jam, or “Largest Free Concert in America.” This year, the totally free concert features Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, The Roots and more.
On Saturday, July 5, the Delaware River Waterfront gets in on the fireworks action with a show high above the river (at about 9:30 p.m.) following a concert by the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own.”
Also look forward to an all-you-can-eat ice cream festival, outdoor movie nights, parades, historic happenings, free museum admission and much more.
On account of the holiday, we’re going to be heading out a little early today, but we wouldn’t leave without offering up our picks for a super weekend.
There’s no better place to celebrate America’s independence than in the birthplace of it all — right here in Philadelphia. Read on for our guide to this weekend.
Please note: All fireworks shows and events are scheduled rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, follow @July4thPhilly on Twitter and Wawa Welcome America on Facebook for up-to-the-minute information.
