James Beard House dinner envy — it’s a thing.
Thankfully, Circles chef Alex Boonphaya will honor his local fan base at his Northern Liberties eatery before heading to the storied James Beard House for a headlining dinner in a few weeks, sharing the goods here in Philly in a warm-up dinner on Thursday, August 7.
For $50 a person, guests will snack on hors d’oeuvres such as shrimp fritters, Chiang Mai potato crisps, sweet tamarind duck jerky with sticky rice, spicy curried fish cakes with Thai spiced cucumber pickle and toasts with curried chicken liver pâté and apple lemongrass compote.
The main feast consists of warm pea shooters with crème and sturgeon caviar; Thai herb and spice infused dashi soup with tofu noodles, wasabi greens and charred halibut; warm curried ginger scrambled eggs with bacon; poached vegetables with pickled spring onions and Szechuan peppercorn au jus; and fried chicken breast with crispy chicken skin, pickled vegetables, sweet and spicy pepper marmalade and Thai herb “dust.”
The dessert? Roasted coconut caramel ice cream with charred sweet corn, shredded young coconut and ginger spiced berries.
Circles is BYOB, so guests are invited to bring their own beer, wine or cocktails to the dinner—champagne will be served at the pre-dinner reception from 6 to 7 p.m. Call 267-687-1309 for reservations.
