Our Picks For March’s First Friday With Game Of Thrones Quizzo, Gallery Events And More

The weekend gets started with First Friday happenings large and small — a movie night, a party at the Barnes Foundation, a poetry slam and more.

It’s that time, Philly: to celebrate the weekend, arts and urban nightlife as another First Friday arrives in neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia Friday, March 4.

If the winter months were characters on The Brady Bunch, we imagine they’d spend a lot of time complaining that ‘March, March, March’ gets all the attention. Fortunately for us, they’d be right. The harbinger of springtime brings us a boatload of new First Friday surprises, including dinner cruises and the return of quizo nights at The Victoria Freehouse.

Remember, beyond our picks, there’s tons more action on arts corridors in Old City and Fishtown, in particular.

Larger Works

Large works and layers play with your perception at the Painted Bride. Artist John Turner works with paint and stringy materials to create powerful color blocks, lush in texture and luminous to the eye. Also on display at The Bride, Dust + Dignity celebrates the intersection of art and music and the expression of social justice.

A theatrical performance at the Chemical Heritage Foundation reenacts the invention of sound, and demonstrates how the new technology not only revolutionized entertainment media, but also broadened the scope of our imaginations.
