Blue Cross RiverRink and Winterfest
One of the most popular aspects of the waterfront experience remains the Blue Cross RiverRink, a regulation-sized ice skating rink at Penn’s Landing. A holiday tradition for more than 20 years, the RiverRink is a family-friendly outdoor activity with spectacular views of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge and Delaware River.
Open to the public through March 2017, the ice skating rink features on-site skate rentals, special events and is a fantastic spot for holiday parties.
To extend the wintertime attraction beyond ice skating, a winter garden and Lodge surrounding the rink welcomes those just looking to hang out in a winter beer garden-style setup. There will be plenty of seating both indoors and out and a 360-degree deck around the skating rink.
After a day, or evening, of ice skating along the water, the Lodge at RiverRink Winterfest is a welcome respite from the cold air. The Lodge serves food, drinks and even alcoholic beverages that are sure to keep you cozy.
This year, Garces Catering and Franklin Fountain will return to the Waterfront with plenty of winter-appropriate food and drinks ready for purchase. From Garces, expect burger specials, loaded fries (topped with short ribs!), veggie burgers and more. From Franklin Fountain, the menu consists of sweets like make-your-own-s’mores kits, waffle ice cream sandwiches, hot fudge sundaes, seasonal ice cream flavors and more. Plus, this year, Franklin Fountain will serve up sugar-coated nuts and roasted chestnuts from an Italian chestnut roasting cast.
New this year: After a successful summer on the Delaware River Waterfront, Chickie’s and Pete’s will be returning to the Lodge with boneless wings, cheesesteaks, their ever-popular Crabfries and more.
