The unofficial start of summer arrives with the Memorial Day holiday, a long weekend for many and a time when popular warm-weather attractions open for the season.
To kick off the summer season, a number of the attractions along Penn’s Landing have joined together to present the first-ever Penn’s Landing Waterfront Day, an all-day celebration featuring live music, a pop-up beer garden (on a boat!), deals at attractions and (drumroll, please!) a huge fireworks show above the Delaware River.
All the fun is slated to happen on Sunday, May 28 and is completely free for all to attend.

Memorial Day Fireworks
To kick off the summer season, a spectacular fireworks show will erupt over the Delaware River following a free show by the United States Air Force Band. The show is slated for Sunday, May 28 — the concert starts at 8 p.m. and the fireworks start at 9:30 p.m.
The fireworks show is completely free to attend and is one of the only times to view a high-flying fireworks show in Philadelphia other than July 4th.
Those who want an up-close view of the fireworks can book a seat on the Spirit of Philadelphia’s Memorial Day Fireworks cruise.
1st Annual Penn’s Landing Waterfront Day
Some of the most frequented spots along the Delaware River Waterfront come together on Sunday, May 28 for the first-annual Penn’s Landing Waterfront Day.
The Spirit of Philadelphia welcomes 21-plus guests for a pop-up rooftop beer garden featuring free admission to the docked boat, a full cash bar, outdoor games (think giant jenga and shuffleboard), free light bites, a DJ spinning fun music and more.
Beyond the beer garden, a number of the waterfront’s popular attractions will offer deals for Penn’s Landing visitors on Sunday, May 28. Patriot Harbor Lines will offer half-price tours from noon to 5 p.m., Independence Seaport Museum will offer $20 for paddle boat rental and museum admission, Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest will welcome roller skaters with a $3 discount and more.
Opening Weekend for Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest
Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, Spruce Street Harbor Park’s sister site, returns for its third year starting on Friday, May 26. The area will transform into a warm-weather space with an outdoor roller rink, nine-hole mini golf course and urban beach lounge. There’s also plenty of food and drinks to discover with options from Franklin Fountain, Chickie’s and Pete’s as well as indoor and outdoor bars.
This year, the warm-weather attraction debuts The Midway, an area with carnival games and rides, which opens on June 23. Also new this year is an outdoor bowling alley.
The waterfront attraction is open daily from May 26 through September 4.
Few things say summer more than fireworks and a pop-up beer garden on a boat, so be sure to spend your Memorial Day weekend along the Delaware River Waterfront at this fun (and free!) event.
Cheers to summer on the waterfront!
