Philadelphia reigns as a great craft beer destination all year round, but Philly Beer Week (PBW) annually stirs up this city’s beer scene with hundreds of festivals, dinners, pub crawls, tastings and brewer events throughout 10 sudsy days.

Now celebrating its 10th anniversary year, PBW remains the highlight of Philadelphia’s beer scene calendar.

The events kick off Thursday, June 1 with the huge Philly Beer Week Opening Tap celebration and tasting at The Fillmore Philly, preceded by the citywide Hammer of Glory Relay.

The Opening Tap kickoff hits Fishtown music venue The Fillmore on Thursday, June 1 for a 10-year anniversary party. Hammer of Glory Relay

The iron-clad symbol of Beer Week — a big branded keg mallet called the Hammer of Glory, or "HOG" — makes its way around the city from bar to bar all day long, conveyed by everything from a zip line from atop Standard Tap to motorcycles at TIME. For $10, relay spectators can grab a ticket and trail the hammer around town on a double-decker bus (courtesy of SugarHouse Casino) to such bars as Hop Angel Brauhaus, Saint Benjamin Brewery, London Grill and more before it makes its way to Opening Tap at The Fillmore.

Beer Under the Big Top

Philly Beer Week makes its way down to the Navy Yard when the Great Beer Expo presents Beer Under the Big Top, bringing out more than 150 brews to a sudsy festival for those over the age of 21. Purchase tickets online ($50-$75) to enjoy drinks from more than 60 breweries including Manayunk, Troegs, Victory, Yards, Roy Pitz and more. A number of ciders will be available, too, like Wyndridge and Rebel Seed.

Varga Bar's 7th Annual Pints 'n' Pinups Block Party

Now in its seventh year, the Pints 'n' Pinups Block Party at Varga Bar takes over 10th Street at Spruce with a dunk tank, photo booth, games, barbecue and — of course — pints and pints of craft beer. And hey ladies, the block party also includes the bar’s annual search for its calendar girls!

Beer and Boats Party on the Schuylkill River

Take a break from the bar and celebrate Philly Beer Week on the Schuylkill River at beautiful Bartram's Garden. A $15 ticket scores attendees their first beer and a boat or kayak excursion out onto the Schuylkill River. Yup, all instruction and equipment is provided and kiddos boat for free with a parent or guardian! Breweries include Evil Genius, Dock Street, Quaker City Malting Co., Cartesian Brewing. and Highway Manor Brewing Co.

Now in its fourth year, Shakedown Street Beer Festival spreads the Beer Week love during this afternoon-long music event and beer fest at City Tap House University City. Splintered Sunlight, a Grateful Dead tribute band, headlines the music lineup and brews from Sierra Nevada, Terrapin , Fat Heads and more celebrate jam band culture.
