It’s time to celebrate the weekend, arts and urban nightlife — First Friday arrives in neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia on Friday, June 2.

Things get a little more varied in the summertime, thanks to outdoor events and pop-up installations, as well as a number of indoor venues adding their specials to the mix. Take your pick of walking tours, movies under the stars, live musical performances, artist workshops and more.

With a new album coming out this summer and a literary debut in the fall, singer-songwriter Donn T has a lot to celebrate. You can join her with a live performance at the Philadelphia Museum of Art this First Friday, where she’ll be sharing her soul music along with some special guests.

3rd Annual Clay Fest

This First Friday, get up close and personal at the Clay Studio. The day-long Clay Fest features live demos with the studio’s artists-in-residence, where they’ll reveal their behind-the-scenes processes. In addition, a series of workshops — open to all ages — will teach visitors how to work the pottery wheel or make a claymation movie.

Illustrated Rock and Roll, Volume One Book Release Party

It’s difficult not to be inspired when listening to your favorite songs. Local illustrator Mike Jackson took that inspiration just a step further when he translated song lyrics into 52 watercolors. The total collection will appear in a CD-sized booklet, but you can catch all the works on display for a limited time at Indy Hall. Proceeds from the show will go towards supporting nonprofit Rock to the Future.

First Friday Movie Night Under the Stars and Stripes

First Friday’s outdoor movie series returns with brand new pre-movie quizzos hosted by the Philadelphia Film Society. The $5 ticket price includes entrance to the screening of It! Terror from Beyond Space, as well as pre-show activities and entrance to the Betsy Ross House. Picnics are welcome, and the event is BYOB.
