Opera On The Mall Returns To Philadelphia’s Historic District This September

Looking for some free performing arts fun?

As part of the fall’s 12-day O17 Festival that transforms the city into a stage for impressive operative performances, Opera on the Mall returns to iconic Independence Mall for an evening of beautiful music and a fun storyline.

OPERA ON THE MALL FAST FACTS

  • Opera on the Mall returns to Independence Mall on Saturday, September 23 as part of the O17 Festival.

Returning on Saturday, September 23 at 7 p.m., this year’s event will feature a free HD broadcast (on two giant screens!) of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, one of the composer’s most celebrated operatic works. The show combines a beautiful score with a comedic storyline that revolves around marriage, love and lust.

Opera Philadelphia performed The Marriage of Figaro during its spring season, and this year’s edition of Opera on the Mall gives attendees the opportunity to check out the show for free! See below for a preview of the show.

How To Get Tickets

Last year, about 4,000 people enjoyed this free broadcast. To join the fun, you’ll need to register for free tickets in advance.

Tickets to Opera on the Mall are completely free and are available for download online. Tickets will be available starting on Wednesday, August 23 at 10 a.m. Be sure to scoop up your ticket soon — this event is expected to fill up quickly.

O17 Festival

From September 14 to 25, Opera Philadelphia’s O17 Festival brings more than 25 individual performances, including Opera on the Mall, to both traditional and non-traditional venues across the city as a kick off of its 2017-2018 season.

The festival is designed to attract people who may not consider themselves regular Opera Philadelphia performance guests.

O17 includes three world premiere productions (!), a site-specific Philadelphia premiere, a performance of Mozart’s work The Magic Flute and unexpected performances in places like the Barnes Foundation, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and more.
