It’s what you do in December that really matters in the NFL. With the Cowboys and Giants floundering, the Eagles have looked like a Super Bowl team this past month. The Birds went into New York and Dallas and came out victorious to put them in position to relax on New Year’s Eve.
The Cowboys were embarrassed today by the Detroit Lions. Tony Romo should take his free trip to Hawaii and run. With the Dallas loss, the Eagles became the 2006 NFC East Division Champions. So the way it turned out, the Eagles’ game against the Falcons on New Years Eve turned meaningless. Eagles fans got to enjoy watching AJ Feeley light up the Falcons defense and Mike Vick squeal in pain. Otherwise for Philly fans, the Falcons match up turned into a pregame for the Mummer’s parade tomorrow.
Congratulations to Andy Reid, Jeff Garcia, Brian Westbrook, Brian Dawkins and the rest of the Eagles for making this season a fun ride. Four more victories and we can have another parade down Broad Street.
The prize the Eagles will get for being crowned NFC East Champions is a home game next week against the New York Giants. The game will be played on Sunday, January 7th at 4:30 PM.

The Army-Navy football game has become a Philadelphia tradition of sorts in recent years. The 107th match up between the two United States military academies was played at the Linc on Saturday. The Naval Academy has been on a tear in the last few years and has won 5 straight times after Saturday’s 26-14 victory over Army. The game features much more than your typical match up between two run of the mill universities. These are two of the elite institutions of our country with over a century’s worth of history and the pageantry to go along with it.
For those who don’t even enjoy football, this game has something for everyone– from the pregame fighter jet stadium flyby to the humorous YouTube-style videos each academy made mocking the other being played on the giant scoreboard screens between plays. One of the more interesting aspects of the game is the crowd being completely divided, something you would never fathom at your typical Eagles game.
The classic rivalry will take a year off from Philadelphia in 2007, hitting up Baltimore, but will return in 2008 and 2009. There has also been a push by Mayor Street to keep the game in Philly through 2014.
Check out my wrap-up of this year’s game.
