Mew Gallery

mewgalleryduo.jpg

In October of 2006, Lauren Parker and Carolynne McNeel opened the doors of Mew Gallery at 906 Christian Street – next door to Sabrinas. Mew Gallery is a unique Philadelphia experience. All the product inside is made, designed, and crafted by Philadelphia artists. In addition to the boutique and gallery, Mew also holds craft workshops and kids art workshops. I’m looking forward to the print gocco workshop.

The store has a little bit of everything – original art work, prints, photography, jewelry, knick knacks, zines, clothes, and many unclassifiable fun things. I can’t imagine the work involved in wrangling all these artist together to house and sell their various wares. But, they have done it.

Mew Gallery is now approaching their 1 year anniversary, which is a huge milestone for a brave experiment like this. If you make cool stuff, take it there and let them sell it. If you want unique things, go there and buy it.

Painted Bride’s Summer In The City

summerinthecity.jpg

This Sunday, on June 3rd, from 3 to 6pm the Painted Bride Art Center is holding its first annual Summer in the City Garden Party and silent auction to raise money for the bride. There will be food, music, door prizes, and art for sale. Both me and my wife Amy S. Kauffman have donated artwork to the auction. Gerald Kolpan on Fox29 is the host and it should be a good time.

You will need tickets to get in ($25) you can get them from the painted bride website. You can preview the artwork for auction on the site also.

I hope you all come out and support and celebrate the Painted Bride in it’s 38th year.
