tagged as   Dining  South Philly  cafes

Just a few blocks from the nexus of the cheesesteak universe, the 9th and Passyunk, Pats/Genos manly meat cloister sits a small, unassuming coffeeshop. In the home of Rocky, the Philly mob and Joey Vento is a corner cafe with a decidedly softer touch. Benna’s CafĂ© at 8th and Wharton is a friendly stop for residents of this neighborhood and a good destination if you want a coffee before filling up on Philadelphia’s most famous sandwich. The warm wood flooring, dressed windows and jars of fresh biscotti serve as a reminder that South Philadelphia takes all kinds.

The coffee here is rich and the sandwiches are varied with several vegetarian and vegan options. But the real draw to Benna’s, besides the neighborhood charm are the pastries, fresh and delicious. From the biscotti to muffins, there is a lot to eat along side your cup of joe.

So whether you are soaking up the booze from the night before, walking the dog or grabbing a snack for the kids, Benna’s is a South Philly gem without the tough guy attitude.
