The Fireworks Display on Saturday July 4 will begin directly after the free concert featuring the Roots and Sheryl Crow finishes. The fireworks take place above the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Fireworks are estimated to begin around 10:30, but get there by 10 pm just to be safe.
- Along Benjamin Franklin Parkway: Get there early with a few blankets and set up a comfy prime time spot on the baseball fields at 22nd and the Parkway.
- Schuylkill River Park: The part of the park between the JFK Bridge and the Art Museum is a great, lesser-known spot to watch. Note, the area directly behind the Art Museum by the Fairmount Water Works will be closed. As will the restaurant.
- Along Martin Luther King Drive: across the Schuylkill River from Boathouse Row also provides excellent views of the show. (See below.)
- Lemon Hill: get there early.
- Kelly Drive: Several places along the river between Poplar Drive and Brewery Hill Drive/the Girard Ave Bridge afford great views of the display. Also, the Girard Avenue Bridge itself for a view from afar.
- There are also some goods spots in the Fairmount neighborhood just a few blocks from the Art Museum.

4th of July
The Roots in Love Park; Photo by Dom Savini
This Saturday is the 4th of July, which here in Philadelphia means a free evening concert on the Parkway and a gorgeous display of fireworks over the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This year, Jeffery Gaines will be starting things off, to be followed by headliners Sheryl Crow and The Roots.
The concert begins at 8:30 p.m., but we recommend that you get down there earlier in order to nab a choice patch of grass or pavement (check out this post for our suggestions on the best places from which to see the show). The fireworks will follow the concert (schedules say they’ll start at 10:30 p.m.) so make sure to stick around for them.

Ah, the Liberty Bell. Made almost entirely of copper and weighing over 2000 pounds, it is easily the most recognized symbol for Philadelphia.
Look through any guide book, tourist map or video related to our city, and there it stands as our cradle of liberty. Its journey from White Chapel Bell foundry in London to the present day home at 6th and Chestnut has been well documented throughout history… but few have ever heard the bell ring.
Forever silenced in 1846, the theories of how it came to be are as numerous as there are visitors. But although the bell can no longer ring, its sound will be heard this July 4th as descendants of the signers of the Declaration come together in Philadelphia to let Freedom Ring… and tap the Liberty Bell.
At approx 2:00 pm, 8 children will tap the Liberty Bell 13 times, thus signaling for bells all across the country to commemorate the sacrifices of the Patriots of our 13 original colonies.
On America’s Birthday, we will let Freedom ring! Enjoy the 4th!

It’s America’s birthday! And what better way to celebrate our independence then partaking in the Feel the Freedom Festival at the National Constitution Center this July 4th weekend in beautiful and historic Old City!
The three-day festival will honor Abraham Lincoln and other revolutionaries like Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony. It’s a festival that depicts freedom on all levels…from a fledging nation of 13 colonies seeking independence from England, to the bloody battlefields of Gettysburg during the Civil War, and pictures of our favorite iron-jawed angels who introduced women’s suffrage in the mid-19th century.
During the festival, a Civil War enactment will take place on the Center’s front lawn, featuring living history interpreters portraying Civil War generals, soldiers, nurses, civilians and political leaders. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the actors and observe demonstrations of Civil War era medicine and equipment.
Guests will also have the chance to take a closer look at a rare copy of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by President Lincoln! Through an interactive presentation, visitors to the Center will learn about the history of the Civil War as well as the background on the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments.
For more information, check out Philly Fun Guide and the official Constitution Center website. See all you history buffs out on the field!

Nearly 20 restaurants will be set up just off Columbus Blvd. at Walnut Street, selling samples of their signature dishes to all. Admission to the Taste is free, you buy your nibbles at each individual tent using tickets that will be available for purchase at various locations around the grounds.
