Unwind at the Walnut Street Supper Club bar with your special martini while listening to live music. (Photo courtesy Walnut Street Supper Club)
If you’ve ever daydreamed about a time gone by when men were men and women were dames, then head to the Walnut Street Supper Club, where the new cocktail menu will have you feeling like an original member of the Rat Pack.
The Walnut Street Supper Club, a 1940s-esque venue in Midtown Village, has recently released an entire menu of alcoholic mixtures that pay tribute to some of the 20th Century’s most famous celebrities — and most notorious tipplers.
There’s the Sinatra-inspired “Ol’ Blue Eyes Martini” that consists of a no-nonsense mixture of Kettle One, dry vermouth and pancetta-stuffed olives. Or try the “Judy Garland” which, much like the singer/actress herself, is a sweet and sassy combination of Stoli Oranj, Peach Schnapps, pineapple juice, prosecco, mint, orange and sugar.
Of course no nostalgic bar menu would be complete without the “Dean Martin Manhattan,” a smooth amalgamation of Applejack, Cherry Heering, Dubonnet and Orange Bitters. Additional concoctions include the “Nat King Cole Collins,” the “Marilyn Monroe” and the “Barbra Streisand” to name a few.
The Walnut Street Supper Club has also launched a brand new happy hour that runs Sunday through Thursday, 4:30-7 p.m., during which you can imbibe $5 featured wines, $4 well drinks, and $3 domestic beers plus 20% off food at the bar.

Tria has one of the most highly curated beer selections in the city; take advantage of their expertise at a spring-appropriate Ice Beer class, April 5. (Photo courtesy Tria)
Here’s something for all you lovers of Tria’s awesome weekly Sunday School special: on Thursday, April 5 Tria’s Fermentation School will be hosting a special ice beer tasting with esteemed Philly brewer Tom Baker of Mt. Airy’s Earth Bread & Brewery.
No, ice beer isn’t that watered down can you get at your local corner store: it’s already great beer that undergoes a process called “fractional freezing,” during which the beer is frozen between 24 and 28 degrees Fahrenheit.
Ice crystals form and are filtered off, leaving a more concentrated flavor and higher alcohol content.
Instructor Tom Baker has a storied brewing history here in Philadelphia, as he and wife Peggy closed up shop at their beloved Heavyweight Brewing Company in ’06 to open the very environmentally-friendly brewpub Earth Bread & Brewery on Germantown Avenue.
So, in addition to some delectable brews, Baker has a lot of knowledge to share. He’ll be sharing with the class four of his latest brews, and testing you on your ice beer expertise, as each brew has a before and after icing version.
Seating is limited, so reserve your seat online here.
Tria’s Ice Beer Class
When: Thursday, April 5, 6:30-8 p.m.
Where: Tria Fermentation School, 1601 Walnut Street
Cost: $55

Thanks to the new Philly Beer Loft at the Four Seasons, there's a great new happy hour spot to add to your circuit. (Photo courtesy Four Seasons)
The first place you think of when you want to grab a local beer is the Four Seasons, right?
Actually, thanks to their cool new Philly Beer Loft, the answer is yes.
It’s a new area of the upper lobby dedicated exclusively to local beer service. Monday through Thursday from 5-7 p.m., you can get specially priced $5 beers from all local breweries.
In addition, enjoy house-made snacks from Executive Chef Rafael Gonzalez and his team, such as truffled-flavor potato chips.
For the non-beer drinkers, the Philly Beer Loft will offer a daily cocktail option as well, like their specialty house-made sangria.
As evidenced by last summer’s With Love Beer Garden at the Four Seasons, the hotel has warm-weather-perfect digs, with a gorgeous outdoor courtyard and fountain.

The spring Pink Pub Crawl is back next Saturday, March 24, visiting four bars in the gayborhood. (Photo by G. Widman for GPTMC)
Does all this warm weather have you jonesing for a pub crawl? Have you been dying to break out those salmon-colored khakis?
Enter: the Pink Pub Crawl, returning to Midtown Village on Saturday, March 24.
Kicking off at 9 p.m. at Tavern on Camac, revelers in pink — it has to be a major item of clothing such as a shirt, plants, or jacket, not just an accessory (unless of course that accessory is a boa) — pay just $25.
That gets you one drink at every bar on the crawl, admission to Woody’s dance floor (stop number 2) and Voyeur (the final stop).
Tickets are available at the first two stops and the schedule goes like this: 9 p.m. Tavern on Camac, 10:15 Woody’s, 11:30 Sumo and 12:30 Voyeur. For those that aren’t any fun (or don’t own anything pink) the cost to join the crawl is $35.
If you can’t make it, don’t fret. The next Pink Pub Crawl is set for July 14.
2012 Spring Pink Pub Crawl
Where: Starts at Tavern on Camac, 243 S. Camac Street
When: Saturday, March 24, 9 p.m.-1:30 a.m.
Cost: $25 for those in pink ($35 for everyone else)

The windows are open at Alla Spina on this gorgeous day. Check it out tonight! (Photo courtesy Alla Spina)
One of the best ways to capitalize on this beautiful weather is by enjoying a bite or drink outdoors.
Looking for a new spot? Head to Marc Vetri’s newly opened Alla Spina on North Broad.
The casual Italian gastropub opened its doors February 27, and has now opened its windows, in honor of the perfectly crisp temperatures.
Treat yourself to a delicious beer on tap (there are 20 total and some 50 more in bottles) either in the lounge or at a table by the windows, made all the sweeter by the fresh breezes.
Not to mention the mortadella hotdog, poutine bolognese, fried pig tails, maple glazed fried chicken, pig pot pie, fried snails, pig sticks, baked oysters, pork terrine, luganega sausage and more mouth-watering menu highlights.
Ah, spring. We missed you.
