Here’s some seriously exciting news for lovers of the local microbrew: on Monday, January 30, Dock Street Brewing Co. and Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia will be debuting their first of four seasonal beer collaborations with their Winter 2012 installment, the Truffled Old Ale.
The event marks the launch of “A Beer Four All Seasons,” a year-long collaboration that’s set to feature new seasonal brews in April, June and late September to early October.
As part of the January 30 debut, Executive Chef Rafael Gonzalez of the Hotel’s Swann Lounge will also be featuring two new mouth-watering additions to the Hotel’s Bar menu: a truffle burger with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms and sottocenere truffle cheese, and truffle French fries with truffle salt and truffle aioli.
And while Dock Street and Four Seasons might seem like a world apart, the two are building upon a years-long relationship that started when Dock Street originally opened in 1985 at Two Logan Square, right next door to Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia.
So mark your calendar and come out for the first taste. With great beer, great food and one of the best views of the Swann Fountain that this city has to offer, it’ll be a night to remember.

Nodding Head's winter-appropriate annual Ice Capades event returns January 16. (Photo courtesy Nodding Head)
With the chilly winter weather starting to linger, Nodding Head Brewery appropriately pays homage to “ice beers” with their second annual Ice Capades event on Saturday, January 14 from 3-6 p.m.
Similar to a German Eisbock, Nodding Head’s ales will undergo a degree of fractional freezing which involves the forming and filtering of ice crystals resulting in a greater increase of alcohol content.
Therefore, drinking with caution may be suggested.
Brews, ranging from $5-$7, include the brewery’s 60 Shilling, BPA, O-TAY, Funky Wine and Oatmeal Stout, and all will be topped off in a wine glass.
In addition, sequins and face-masks are welcomed as all event-goers are encouraged to don their best ice apparel for the gelid affair.

Impressive: the Chestnut Hill location is Iron Hill's second new location in just three years. (Image courtesy Iron Hill)
On Wednesday, January 4 at 4 p.m., Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant founders Kevin Finn, Kevin Davies and Mark Edelson will celebrate the opening of their first Philadelphia location at 8400 Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill with a festive toast.
Councilman Bill Green and Councilwoman Cindy Bass, along with the Iron Hill owners, will come together for a ceremonial “First Pour” from the taps of their new brewery. The restaurant, Iron Hill’s ninth location, will then officially open to the public at 5 p.m.
In what has become a long-standing Iron Hill tradition, the restaurant will offer seasonally changing American dishes by Executive Chef Mario Romero that transcend typical brewpub fare.
Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, Iron Hill Chesntut Hill will offer soups, sandwiches, made-from-scratch pizzas, salads and entrées.
Through large plate glass windows that separate the restaurant from the brewery, beer enthusiasts will actually be able to watch the brewing process by Head Brewer Paul Rutherford.
There will be six house beers, monthly beer releases and selections from Bottled Reserves, the brewery’s most award-winning beers from over the years.
Chestnut Hill is a great location for Iron Hill, given the lively and comfortable restaurant and retail culture. We’re hoping their venturing into city limits portends another Iron Hill within Philadelphia in the near future!
