March Madness is starting a little early for Philadelphia college basketball fans.
Tonight, Drexel is playing to be one of the first teams to get an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament when they take on VCU in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Game. The Dragons are riding a 19-game winning streak and a school-record tying 27 wins.
The Rams of VCU also have 27 wins and are coming off an amazing run in last year’s NCAA tournament, in which they made it all the way to the Final Four. The stakes are huge: the winner gets the Colonial Athletic Association’s automatic tournament berth and the loser may be left out. The game will be televised live on ESPN starting at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, Penn is another local team that is trying to secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Quakers play at Princeton tomorrow night (to be broadcast on ESPN3.com) and if they win, they will tie Harvard for the Ivy League title, forcing a one-game playoff later this week to determine the conference’s NCAA Tournament bid.
Go Penn! Go Drexel!
