Toast — pun intended — to Sabrina's turning 10 with this awesome breakfast deal available at all three locations, including the newly opened Sabrina's Cafe @ Powelton pictured here. (Photo courtesy Sabrina's)

Happy 10th Anniversary to Sabrina’s, one of Philadelphia’s favorite brunch spots, home to arguably the city’s most epically massive French toast.

In celebration of 10 years of rave reviews and consistently mouth-watering meals, the cafe will be offering special weekday morning specials throughout December, and possibly into the new year.

All three locations, including the newly opened Sabrina’s @ Powelton in University City, will be serving up the deal, which includes one of four full breakfasts and a cup of coffee, all for just $6.99.

On the menu is either 2 Eggs Any Style plus your choice of a breakfast meat and toast, Short Stack Buttermilk Pancakes, Challah Frenchtoast or Pigs in a Blanket. In case you’re wondering, this isn’t your average Pig in a Blanket: it’s grilled sausage and cheddar eggs wrapped in a buttermilk pancake and topped with vanilla syrup. So good.

So, let Sabrina’s help you celebrate the most important meal of the day with this awesome deal. We know where we’ll be every weekday morning this month.

Reminder: Celebrate The Royal Wedding April 29 At The Rittenhouse Hotel, Four Seasons And Davio’s

Don your British royal best for Royal Wedding celebrations at the Rittenhouse Hotel and Four Seasons. (Photo courtesy Rittenhouse Hotel)

In honor of Prince William’s pending nuptials to Kate Middleton, The Rittenhouse Hotel, Four Seasons Hotel and Davio’s Steakhouse are offering special ways to celebrate.

For starters, you can watch the ceremony live next Friday, April 29 at 5:30 a.m. in the Rittenhouse Hotel’s ballroom, which will host a Royal Wedding English Breakfast complete with crumpets, grilled tomatoes, English sausages, bacon, eggs and much more ($25). Because of the overwhelming amount of reservations, the event moved from Lacroix Restaurant to the ballroom, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled celebration, complete with people dressed as Beefeaters (the British guards).

Fun fact: Philadelphia’s Honorary British Consul Oliver St. Clair Franklin, O.B.E., just returned from Buckingham Palace, bringing greetings and best wishes from the royals whom he told about the Rittenhouse Hotel event. A pretty big deal!

In addition, the Four Seasons is offering multiple celebration options. The Swann Lounge is hosting a kid-friendly Royal Wedding Prince and Princess Afternoon Tea, 4-7 p.m. This family tea will include a taped broadcast of the wedding festivities and an English-inspired menu including Battenburg Sponge Marzipan Cake, Chocolate Cream Eclairs, Lemon Meringue Tartlets and more. For the real deal that morning (5:30 a.m.), adults can dress in their British wedding best for the Four Seasons’ English breakfast buffet and Royal Wedding viewing party ($50). Plus, Pastry Chef Eddie Hales has made a version of Prince Williams’ Grooms Cake (chocolate, biscuits, fruit and nuts).

Lastly, Davio’s is celebrating the nuptials with Pastry Chef Thomas Heck’s specially crafted Royal Dessert which will be available from the day of the royal wedding to the end of May (think bittersweet dark chocolate, McVities biscuits, almonds, currants and glazed cherries all covered in ganache).

Royal Wedding Viewing Parties
Where: Rittenhouse Hotel (210 W. Rittenhouse Square) and Four Seasons Hotel (1 Logan Square)
When: Friday, April 29, 5:30 a.m. or 4-7 p.m.

Carman’s Country Kitchen in South Philadelphia

Carman's colorfully decorated exterior

With spring in the air, it’s time to shake up old routines and mix in the new and exciting. Based on its nutritional and social value, brunch should be no exception. So, if you’re in the market for entertainment to go along with your impeccably-cooked challah French toast, then look no further than Carman’s Country Kitchen in South Philadelphia.

With four to five unique seasonal options, owner and cook Carman keeps her menu simple, and it works. The Kitchen generally includes one pancake, one French toast, one omelette and one fish option, with suggested sides to go along if you’d like.

Based on the decor, however, you would be hard-pressed to call Carman a minimalist. Its colorful and kitschy decor both inside and out are as energetic as the servers themselves, and definitely will not be found anywhere else in the city. It seems like they’ve managed to fit everything but the kitchen sink into the decorating of the 1-room, corner locale.

Breakfast at Carman's

A delicious breakfast at Carman's

Carman’s Kitchen is daring for sure (her menu’s even been home to a side of turtle before). But with all the sweet fruit toppings and the bacon (oh, the bacon!), it’s hard for a glutton to pass up this mealtime opportunity.

Standard Craft: Positive Space Arts & Craft Sale @ Standard Tap

December is shaping up to be an awesome month for local craft shows. Last week there was Crafty Balboa at the Broad Street Ministry, and the Book Paper Scissors craft show at the Free Library… but I guess it’s no surprise. Handmade gifts are the best gifts, especially when you’re supporting talented, local artists.

This Saturday another craft show hits Philadelphia, coming to the popular Northern Liberties gastropub, Standard Tap. The Tap will play host to Positive Space, who are bringing 18 local artists to the pub, peddling all sorts of handmade wares.

Jewelry, paintings, screenprints, clothes, there is something for everyone. Drop by Standard Tap for breakfast or brunch, then head upstairs for a healthy course of handmade gifts.

This is the 7th year in a row that Standard Tap has hosted Positive Space’s craft show, and it runs from 11am to 3pm. See you there!

Scrapplefest: An Ode To Our Favorite Breakfast Meat

It’s true. Philadelphians do not live on cheesesteaks alone.

For breakfast, brunch, or lunch, we occasionally feast on scrapple. What? You’ve never heard of this savory creation? To sum it up, scrapple is a combination of pork scraps and cornmeal made into a loaf and then deep fried. It goes perfect with a side of scrambled eggs and home fries.

When it comes to my love for scrapple, I’m far from alone. The Reading Terminal Market is hosting Scrapplefest, an ode to all things scrapple this weekend. Enjoy a variety of samples, including ones made from turkey, chocolate (what?) and a special kind created just for vegans… vrapple.

Scrapple souvenirs will also be available and so much more! So come have a slice. It’s what the locals would do!

North Third in Northern Liberties

North Third restaurant and bar in Northern Liberties is a must visit for anyone tired of conventional settings for brunch. Beyond its crazy décor, the Tex/Mex cuisine breathes new life into late morning feasts. I could never seriously picture finishing a plate of sweet cornbread that had a layer of eggs over-easy atop chili with roasted potatoes and sour cream “” especially for breakfast, and so soon after rolling out of bed on a Sunday.

However, in the interest of exploration, I did just that… and it was glorious. Mmm! If dishes such as egg quesadillas combos tend to make you and or your party too nervous, not to worry! North Third also comes equipped with an exquisite array of traditional brunch pieces including a modified but just as good French Toast dish as well as Chocolate Chip Pancakes.

Du Jour Cafe

Those seeking high-quality eats in a casual setting along the Avenue of the Arts need look no further than Du Jour Cafe. What sets the Symphony House restaurant apart from others in the area is that it’s not quite the $100 hotel brunch nor is it the $3 egg sandwich from a cart. If you do want an omelet with lobster tail and filet mignon or a Kobe Breakfast Slider, that’s fine, but know that your picky 6-year old can play with a trio of plain waffles at the very same table and not disrupt anyone in the open, laidback space. I know how some people are about pancakes, and I’m one of them. Du Jour turns out a considerate variety of stacks, but get ‘em crammed with white and dark chocolate chips if you know what’s up.

They’ve got you covered all afternoon with lunch selections and Illy coffee drinks, deep into the evening with a small plates menu of Foie Gras PB&J and Lobster Corn Fritters, larger entrees, and brick-oven flatbreads. More good news? They serve alcohol. The airy, cafeteria-like setting is slickly designed with an open kitchen and lots of light pouring in from the windows during the day, and the happenings of the city at night.
