Throughout the month of March, Krispy Kreme is partnering with The Hamels Foundation, a charity launched by Phillies pitcher Cole and his wife Heidi in 2008, dedicated to supporting inner-city education.
This month, donate $1 to the foundation and get a free original glazed donut for your next visit; donate $5 and get a free half dozen original glazed donuts for your next visit.
In addition, you can purchase a “Hamels dozen,” 12 awesomely decorated baseball donuts, with a portion of proceeds going towards The Hamels Foundation.
Bonus: all four Philadelphia area Krispy Kreme locations will be raffling off a bat autographed by Hamels. When you stop into any store and purchase a Hamels Dozen
or make a donation, you’ll receive an automatic entry for your chance to win!
You can also pose for a photo with a cardboard Cole, free of charge.
This March, turns out you can have your cake and eat it, too.

There are now four Krispy Kreme locations in the Philly area: Collingswood, Fox Chase, Center City and Bensalem. Krispy Kreme will open its flagship Center City location — its second site in Philadelphia, in addition to a branch in Fox Chase — tomorrow, May 4.
This latest outpost is at 16th and Chestnut, a major Center City intersection sure to provide the store with tons of foot traffic. It’s the first Krispy Kreme location to offer the company’s “Baked Program” (bagels, muffins, cinnamon rolls) plus the “KK For You” line of healthful products, which all have less than 350 calories and less than 9 grams of fat per serving.
Other nifty elements include video-screen menus and a glass window through which you can watch the donut makers work their glazing magic.
In honor of the grand opening (and our weakness for donuts), we’re giving away a FREE dozen donuts to one lucky uwishunu reader.
All you have to do is email your full name with “Krispy Kreme Giveaway” in the subject line to tips@uwishunu.com by 5 p.m. today, May 3.
And a news bulletin for all donut-lovers: the first person in line at the store tomorrow (it opens at 6 a.m., so set an alarm) wins a free dozen donuts every week for a year; the next 11 win a free dozen every month for a year; and the first 100 win 20 cups of coffee.

Krispy Kreme is set to open its second location in Philadelphia (there’s a branch in Fox Chase) on May 4.
The latest outpost will be at 16th and Chestnut, a major Center City intersection sure to provide the store with tons of foot traffic. It’s a unique concept for the Southern-based Krispy Kreme brand to have a downtown location.
And that’s not the only stand-out element of this store: it’ll be the first Krispy Kreme location to offer the company’s “Baked Program” (bagels, muffins, cinnamon rolls) plus the “KK For You” line of healthful products, which all have less than 350 calories and less than 9 grams of fat per serving.
As it is, the most popular Krispy Kreme item, the 99 cent hot glazed donut, is only 190 calories, which should justify stationing yourself at the hot light window which, when the sign is lit, indicates hot fresh donuts for all!
The 750 square foot (all kosher, if you care) shop will also sell espresso drinks and drip coffee — bean-to-cup, so it’s ground in the store, in addition to frozen blended drinks and smoothies. Also look forward to sidewalk seating, and free WiFi inside and out.
Click here to sign up for Krispy Kreme email alerts and get a coupon for a free glazed donut!
Krispy Kreme had eight stores in the Philadelphia area from 2002-2005; we bet dollars to donuts they’ll be glad they came back!

Seven or eight years ago, there was quite a bit of fanfare when Krispy Kreme brought a handful of stores and their “Hot Doughnuts Now” signs to the Philadelphia area. I vividly remember those openings, primarily because I had a couple of friends who had recently gotten married and so made a pilgrimage to the new store in order to eat with abandon, because they no longer had to worry about fitting into their wedding dresses.
There was far less hoopla when those same stores closed up shop, leaving the Philadelphia area without access to fresh, hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts (yes, you can get them in some area grocery stores, but they are not the same at the ones fresh out of the cookers).
Well doughnut fans, it is the time for much rejoicing. Krispy Kreme is coming back and they’re opening their first Philly store at 7855 Oxford Avenue on Tuesday, November 9 at 6 a.m. This new shop will offer all the classics, as well as their new Baked Creations line (looks like an attempt at being a bit healthier), organic oatmeal and fresh fruit. The drive-thru will be open 24 hours. They’re planning an array of opening day events, including:
• the FIRST customer to walk through the door and the first customer to drive through the drive-thru will receive one free dozen Original Glazed doughnuts every week for a year.
• the NEXT 11 customers to walk through the door and the next 11 customers to drive through the drive-thru will receive one free dozen Original Glazed doughnuts every month for a year.
• the FIRST 100 customers will receive an official Krispy Kreme Philly T-shirt.
For those of you who want to stay up-to-date with all the Krispy Kreme happenings, you can sign-up for their email updates here, like their Facebook page here and follow them on Twitter here. There’s also a video embedded after the jump that shows the doughnuts at the new store being cooked and getting their signature coat of sugary glaze.
