Northern Liberties is the place to be this Saturday, with food trucks staked out at the Piazza and two festivals on Girard Avenue featuring live bands, crafts and family fun. (Photo courtesy Piazza at Schmidts)
Due to forecasted weather conditions and possible flooding at FDR Park, the POPPED! Music Festival has been moved to Temple’s Liacouras Center.
The much-anticipated local food bazaar will now fittingly be at the Piazza at Schmidts in Northern Liberties on Saturday from 3-9 p.m., the site of the smash-success Philadelphia Vendy Awards.
It’s also impeccable timing, and location, given the fact that the Girard Fest, put on in conjunction with the Philly F/M Festival, are taking over Northern Liberties and Girard Avenue this very same Saturday with live music, craft vendors, a beer garden, family fun and more.
The new rendition of the Popped! Food Bazaar, curated in part by Philly Homegrown, will feature the following food trucks:
• Sweetbox
• Hardena’s
• Nomad Pizza
• Gigi’s & Big R
• Made in the Shade
• King of Rock-and-Roll Treats
It’s completely free, you just pay as you go for food and treats from each vendor. So if you’re planning to attend the Girard Fest or Philly F/M Festival activities, be sure to stop by the Piazza for some amazing food.
With food, drink and entertainment taken care of, Northern Liberties is the place to be this Saturday.

All previously purchased tickets will be honored, and you can still get tickets to the festival online or at the Liacouras box office. (Photo courtesy Liacouras Center)
Due to forecasted weather conditions and possible flooding at FDR Park, the POPPED! Music Festival has been moved to Temple’s Liacouras Center.
In an effort to save the park from thousands of people congregating over two days in the excessively wet area and still be able to bring a safe, exciting event to Philadelphia, the decision was made to move the festival.
Rest assured it will still be a completely awesome time, with a jam-packed music lineup.
All previously purchased tickets will be honored, and advance tickets are on sale now for the Liacouras shows through Ticketmaster and also at The Liacouras Center Box Office and the Electric Factory Box Office. Day-of-event tickets will be $65 each, available at the Liacouras Center box office.
The food bazaar will be rescheduled and will not be at the Liacouras Center; it will now be at the Piazza at Schmidts on Saturday from 3-9 p.m. In the meantime, you’ll be able to get concessions from 14 different stands throughout the center including the award-winning Chickie’s & Pete’s.
The Liacouras Center is easily accessible with area parking lots, on-street parking and numerous public transportation options.
The 10,200-seat center has played host to huge events ranging from Cirque du Soleil to this year’s Hip Hip Reunion Tour featuring some of hip hop’s biggest legends, including Salt N Pepa, Naughty By Nature, Doug E. Fresh, Kool Moe Dee and Kurtis Blow. See you there.

UPDATE: Due to forecasted weather conditions and possible flooding at FDR Park, the Popped Music Festival has been moved to Temple’s Liacouras Center. The Food Bazaar will now take place at the Piazza from 3-9 p.m. on Saturday. More info here.
It’s here! The POPPED! Music Festival returns this weekend, September 23-24.
Over the course of two days, more than 30 diverse acts, from top performers to local talent, will share three stages at FDR Park (a first-time location!), in South Philly across from the sports complex. There will also be a comedy tent, DJs and an awesome food bazaar featuring local food trucks, curated in part by Philly Homegrown.
Our definitive guide to all of the above, so you can Pop ’til you drop:
The Music
Three stages are staked out around the park: Golf Stage (aka The Left Stage), Lake Stage (aka The Right Stage) and Tennis Stage (aka The 2nd Stage). You’ll hear groups like The Shins, Foster the People, Black Thought and Girl Talk alongside world-class DJ J. Period (named among “the world’s top DJs” by the New York Times) and indie acts The Hold Steady and Panda Bear. The full lineup is included below.
The Comedy
Eight acclaimed comedians, both local and otherwise, will supplement the festival schedule. The comedy lineup is curated by the hilarious Seth Herzog, currently the warm-up comic for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Food
Another major component of the festival we’re super excited about is the locally sourced POPPED! Food Bazaar.
It’s a giant outdoor community food celebration highlighting an eclectic range of Philadelphia’s food, from gelato to tacos to cupcakes to hot dogs to brick oven pizza. The bazaar, with separate general admission and VIP access, will showcase the tastiest bites from Philadelphia’s restaurants, gourmet food trucks and markets. AND it will feature the debut of Questlove’s food project, a signature chicken “drumstick” dish (get it?); see details below. Note that beer will be available to all attendees.
Sustainable Element
The POPPED! Music Festival is committed to sustainability, so food vendors, à la Philly Homegrown, will be embracing local, fresh and healthy food choices. All of the food vendors will also serve their dishes in biodegradable, compostable containers.
For the first time this year, POPPED! is partnering with Vapur, “the anti bottle,” and Event Water Solutions to limit plastic water bottles on site. POPPED! Vapur bottles will be available for purchase at the POPPED! merchandise table and at each water station. Festivalgoers who purchase the anti bottle will receive complimentary water fills. Vapur Anti-Bottles are completely BPA-free and are constructed of three layers of ultra-durable plastic.

Before 50 Cent, before Jay Z and even before Biggie, there was Slick Rick, the pirate MC who flashed the bling before many of today’s rappers were even close to finishing first grade. His tracks like “Mona Lisa” and “Children’s Story” were always on my mix tapes.

That’s why I couldn’t believe my eyes when I heard that he was going to perform at the Troc on Friday for the POPPED! Music Festival. Where were my shelltops and Adidas tracksuit?

When Slick Rick hit the stage decked out in his medallions, I knew it was going to be hot! The crowd of both young and old was really in for a treat, because for the next 75 minutes, he reminded us to not forget the “old school” as the hits dropped and the people danced!

Too bad they didn’t have any cardboard!
