Originally the site of a brickyard, Fitler Square has stood sentinel for over 100 years, as its surrounding neighborhood evolved. Today, it is the jewel of a highly desirable neighborhood, lined with trees and cozy brick rowhomes. On Saturdays, the Square plays host to a small but useful farmers market that claims many a devoted fan.

It’s an invaluable resource for the neighborhood, because residents know that they can depend on finding high-quality produce, meats, cheeses, breads and other baked goods just steps from their homes (the pastured eggs sold here are particularly amazing). Farmers love attending this market as well, because of the devoted and dedicated shoppers. And, like the one at Rittenhouse, this market operates year-round.

We’ve been told that you can get some of the best apple cider donuts available within the city limits at this farmers market, although on the outing that produced these photos, they weren’t to be found (apparently, you have to be the early bird in order to get your hands on those particular treats). Merchants at this market happily accept special orders, and will have your requested items bagged and ready for you, making doing your weekly shopping a breeze.

Since it’s a smaller market, we don’t recommend strollers or large dogs (even small dogs can get in the way, as the woman pictured above learned), as they can easily block the entire way and cause the momentum of the market to come to a halt.
