Chef and restaurateur Mike Stollenwerk’s new location of Fish is set to open tonight at 1234 Locust Street.
This fall, Stollenwerk made the decision to sell his two other popular restaurants, Queen Village’s Little Fish and Fathom Seafood House.
We got a sneak peek at Fish version 2.0 and can share a few highlights to whet your appetite before you head over there to try it out yourself.
Why the move? The new Fish is three times the size of its spot at 1708 Lombard Street. As Chef Stollenwerk puts it, “It’s going to allow us to bring our game up higher across the board — plus expand everything we are able to do, including a lunch program.”
Fish is now on the ground floor of The Independent Hotel at the corner of 13th and Locust Streets right in the happening Midtown Village neighborhood.
The seafood-centric Fish offers a fresh raw bar menu (guests can sit at bar stools around an open kitchen constructed with white subway tiles and gorgeous Edison-style lamps, featured throughout the restaurant) in addition to snacks and two courses of plates.
Snacks include Skate Chips with parmesan powder; a Daily Tartare; Cured Meat Board; and Fried Brandade.
Plates include everything from Char-Grilled Octopus to Anchovy Panzanella to fresh cod and monkfish to Prime Ribeye.
Fish has secured Theo Webb, formerly of Noble, as head bartender (see above). He’ll be shaking up fresh cocktails in addition to a great beer and wine selection.
Bonus: in the spring, Fish will open up its patio seating, also available for private event rental. Chef Stollenwerk will plant vegetables and herbs out there, in addition to the extant grape vines intertwined throughout the wooden lattice lining the mini-courtyard’s brick walls.
Stollenwerk says, “We want to continue to challenge ourselves to be not only the city’s best seafood restaurant, but one of the best overall restaurants on the East Coast.” We think he has a great shot.
