The much-anticipated opening of the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia is set for Saturday, May 19, just around the corner.
The Barnes is opening with a 10-day series of special events from May 19-28, culminating with 60 hours of round-the-clock access over Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28, for which you can reserve tickets and/or become a member online.
But that’s not all.
PECO is partnering with the Barnes on a program called “Free First Sundays at The Barnes.”
Each first Sunday of the month, visitors will enjoy free admission, family entertainment and informative seminars from 1-6 p.m. Each month, PECO will introduce new themes and entertain new audiences at the Barnes.
That means you can get access to the world’s largest collections of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and early Modern paintings — including 181 Renoirs, 69 Cezannes, 59 Matisses, 46 Picassos and 7 Van Goghs — for free!
The first event is Sunday, June 3 and will celebrate Gay Pride Month and Black Music Month.
PECO will host a panel discussion titled “Black Music Matters: A Celebration of Black Music Month and the Philadelphia Sound” moderated by: Marc Byers, Manager of The Roots.
Advance reservations are required for Free First Sundays; access to reserving the free tickets becomes available on the first Sunday of the preceding month. The Barnes is currently accepting reservations for Sunday, June 3.
In order for you to get your free tickets to the Barnes on June 3, go to the Barnes ticketing website, and then select Sunday, June 3 and your preferred arrival time; select “Book” and the “I am not a member” option, then pick the ticket type, either PECO Free Adult or PECO Free Child.
And then fill out the required mailing and account information.
And stay tuned for a lot more about the Barnes in the days and weeks to come.
