Every year, on the third Thursday of November, beaujolais nouveau — a French wine made from Gamay grapes produced in the Beaujolais region — is released for sale after being fermented for just a few weeks.

It’s an occasion for celebration worldwide, and Philadelphia is no exception.

Five years ago, Midtown Village’s Duross & Langel soap shop began celebrating Beaujolais Nouveau Day by inviting customers in for a tasting, hosting wine experts to discuss the traditions worldwide behind beaujolais nouveau and making soap, lip balms and scrubs using all partys of the special Gamay grape.

Since then, Beaujolais Nouveau Day in Midtown Village has expanded into a neighborhood-wide affair, with shops, bars and restaurants going French for the night and offering specials, discounts, themed items and more. Talk about Thirsty Thursday.

This year on Beaujolais Nouveau Day, which falls on Thursday, November 15, participating stores include Absolute Abstract, Paper on Pine, Scarlet Fiorella, Verde, Open House, Citibank and the shop that started it all, Duross & Langel.

Restaurants on board include Bar, Barbuzzo, El Vez, Jamonera, Lolita, Raw, Sampan, The Corner, McGillin’s, Time, Vintage and Zavino. So… all of them. It’s going to be awesome.

Also, this year 5% of all sales in the Midtown Village neighborhood on November 15 will be going to Hurricane Sandy victims!
