As we mentioned earlier today, the 85th Annual Academy Awards hit this Sunday night, February 24, and we’re catching a little bit of Oscar fever over here thanks to a film called Silver Linings Playbook.
Silver Linings, starring Philadelphia native Bradley Cooper, has been a smash hit. It’s earned almost $100 million at the box office and is nominated for a whopping eight(!) Academy Awards on Sunday.
Which is kind of a big deal. Especially since the movie is set in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs, was largely filmed here, and Philadelphia even figures pretty nicely into the narrative of the film.
The movie is up for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay and it’s also the first film in 31 years to be nominated in all four acting categories – Best Actor, Bradley Cooper; Best Actress, Jennifer Lawrence; Best Supporting Actor, Robert De Niro; and Best Supporting Actress, Jacki Weaver.
Philadelphia, of course, is another star in the movie. Not only because the movie is set in Philadelphia and the nearby suburbs, but also because Silver Linings celebrates and embraces the underdog spirit that Philadelphia knows and loves so dearly.
So what better way to delve deeper into the movie than to visit some of the places Bradley Cooper’s “Pat” and Jennifer Lawrence’s “Tiffany” visit in the film, like Lincoln Financial Field, Jewelers’ Row and the now famous Llanerch Diner in Upper Darby.
To that end, check out Visit Philly’s complete Silver Linings Playbook Itinerary. It will help you explore Philadelphia Bradley Cooper-style.
And be sure to tune in to the Oscars on Sunday night — it’s no secret what movie we (and the rest of Philadelphia) are going to be rooting for.
