March is here and for basketball fans that means one thing: March Madness is upon us.

This year will be better than ever for local fans because Philadelphia is hosting games during the always exciting opening weekend of the 2013 NCAA Mens Tournament. The Wells Fargo Center will host four second round games — formerly known as the tourney’s first round — on Friday, March 22, followed by two third round games on Sunday, March 24.

While all rounds of the annual win-or-go-home tournament are exciting, there is something particularly special about opening weekend, as underdogs often upset favorites in dramatic fashion in front of raucous crowds and hoops history made.

The field is not yet set, but we’re crossing our fingers that maybe one (or more) of Philly’s local schools may benefit from a bit of home court advantage, as Temple, Nova and LaSalle finish their regular season’s in hopes of securing a tournament birth.

Tickets are on sale now at Wells Fargo Center’s official site and are bundled as an All Session Package, granting access to all six games. For tickets to individual games, check out StubHub — the official fan-to-fan ticket reseller — but move quickly before they’re gone.
