Photo Of The Day: Happy Memorial Day 2013!

Philadelphia is one of America's most patriotic cities, steeped in U.S. History — where better to spend this Memorial Day Weekend? (Photo by G. Widman for GPTMC)

Few destinations capture the spirit of Memorial Day quite like our very own Independence Hall.

The building that housed the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 is an architectural ode to our nation’s freedom and those who defend the country’s independence.

In honor of Memorial Day, we’d like to take a moment to remember and commemorate the courageous U.S. soldiers who have fallen defending our country.

Today’s holiday also marks the unofficial start to the summer season (the first day of summer is June 21), and a great time to welcome longer days and balmy weather. It’s time to look forward to sunny afternoons, alfresco dining, park lounging, beer gardens, cold drinks, Phillies games and more.

For now, look to our roundup of where to celebrate Memorial Day in Philadelphia and our long-weekend picks for more ideas on how to spend the day in Philadelphia.

We’ll be back on Tuesday with our regular schedule of bringing your the top events, tips and more.

Enjoy the holiday, Philadelphia!
