This Saturday, May 11, peaceful and leafy Clark Park springs to life with two lively community-driven events.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Spruce Hill Community Association is set to hold its annual family-friendly May Fair.

Check out live music by three local bands, food from University City vendor trucks, a kids’ obstacle course and a bounce tent, as well as high-quality handmade goods by local artists and crafters.

Plus, look for a used-book sale and University City Garden Club-sponsored plant sale, in addition to information booths from other local groups and causes.

There will also be a raffle (get six chances for $5), with prizes donated by University Pinball Family Fun Center like an iPad 4 and vouchers for game play at University Pinball and gift cards from local merchants.

This year, SHCA is also offering free introductory memberships to all who sign up at the main booth.

In addition to the one-day May Fair festival, the Spruce Hill green space is also home to The Food Trust’s Clark Park Farmers’ Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Established in 1998, this market is one of The Food Trust’s largest and operates year-round.

Now that it’s spring, though, look for a wider variety of organic fruits, heirloom vegetables and cut flowers to hit market stands. Also, don’t miss the ready-to-eat treats from Lil’ Pop Shop, Little Baby’s Ice Cream and the Yumtown USA Food Truck.

  1. Thanks for the Clark Park Farmers’ Market shout-out! The Thursday market opens June 6th (3pm-7pm) with plenty of beautiful local produce, hard cider from Frecon Farms, and a couple of rotating food trucks. Don’t forget: Food Trust farmers’ markets accept SNAP/ACCESS/food stamps and you get a $2 Philly Food Bucks coupon for every $5 spent using SNAP benefits.
