The phenomenal Parisian-imported pop-up fete, Dîner en Blanc returns to Philadelphia this August for its second year of intriguing white-clad celebrations.
On Thursday, August 22, 2300 participants will take over an iconic Philadelphia public space for an evening of dining, drinking, dancing, fashion, music and pageantry.
Dîner en Blanc started as a casual reunion for a small group of Parisian friends, who all wore white (hence the “blanc”) to ensure easy recognition of one another. That was 1988.
In 2013, the worldwide event celebrates its 25th anniversary with tens of thousands of white-clad revelers attending private, pop-up picnic parties at to-be-disclosed, highly visible locations in 40 of cities across the globe — including Philadelphia.
Last year, the Dîner made its debut in Philly when 1300 guests descended upon the secret pop-up location that was revealed the night of the event to be Swann Memorial Fountain in Logan Circle.
Joining the Dîner — which is part impromptu dinner party, part top-secret scavenger hunt and part elegant soiree — takes a lot of enthusiasm and a bit of determination, especially for those who did not attend last year. There are a number of steps to take and rules to follow, not the least of which is to wear only white.
If you didn’t join the party last year, register now to get on the waiting list and secure an official invitation. The waiting list is now open here.
For those who attended last year, you will receive an invitation to re-activate your membership when you are notified to register in July. Registered members are invited automatically in phase one, and then will have an opportunity to sponsor a friend in phase two.
