Have you ever dreamed of summoning an ice cream truck to your doorstep? Thanks to Uber, you can.
Tomorrow, Friday, July 19, score sweet treats on demand via Uber Philadelphia thanks to a global one-day-only blitz that adds ice cream trucks as an option on Uber’s smartphone app, which usually offers on-demand town cars or SUVs.
In 33 cities across the globe, ice cream trucks will be on the road from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., while supplies last.
Here in Philadelphia, Philly-born confectioner Mister Softee will be dishing cool classic treats like the red, white and blue original Bomb Pop, vanilla ice cream sandwiches, Big Dipper ice cream cones, Turtle Bars and Sponge Bob Bars.
For $25, you’ll get one ice cream bundle — five pieces of ice cream and an Uber Tank Top.
You can purchase more than five pieces of ice cream from a single truck, but only in increments of five. So, five for $25, 10 for $50, and so on. The drivers will not be selling individual pieces.
Plus, there’s no cash required. All of the treats will be charged directly to your Uber account.
If you don’t have an Uber account already, sign up here. If you are a new Uber user, you can also enter the code “ICECREAM” for $20 off your first ride (sorry, no discount for current account holders).
Demand for the ice cream trucks is expected to be very, very high and availability is quite limited, so it may take multiple tries to tap an available truck. Be patient, though, since the folks at Uber intend to deliver as much ice cream as possible.
