Deal Feed: The Annual Joan Shepp Basement Sale Hits This Week With Incredible Savings Of Up To 80% On High-End Fashion, January 15-18

If the mere mention of names like Balenciaga, Phillip Lim, Rick Owens, Junya Watanabe and Jil Sander give you a thrill, take note.

The annual Joan Shepp Basement Sale is back, kicking off at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15 and running through Saturday, January 18 at 7 p.m. at the Joan Shepp pop-up at The Shops at Liberty Place.

Philadelphia’s trusted source for top-line designer clothing, shoes and accessories for more than 40 years, Joan Shepp brings the runway to Rittenhouse by stocking a hand-picked selection of men’s and women’s fashions from a lengthy roster of international designers including Chloe, Dries Van Noten, Jean Paul Gaultier, Yohji Yamamoto and many, many more.

A hotly anticipated annual event for fashion-coveting shoppers, Shepp’s basement sale offers up past seasons’ designer pieces with red-lined price tags. Look for deeply discounted clothing, accessories and shoes (oh, the shoes!) for both men and women.

The sale is a festive event, too, with complimentary refreshments like soft pretzels, sweets and bubbly.

With a wide range of designers on sale, the deals vary greatly. Items that were originally priced in the four digits — $1000 and up — are cut to far more accessible three-digit prices. For instance, a Marni printed frock that was originally $1700 will be on sale for $320 and a Comme des Garçon piece that was upwards of $500 will be just $99.

Needless to say, even at basement-sale prices the high-end designer goods are still out of reach for many. But, for those who have longed for that Balenciaga City bag, now may be the chance.

This year’s sale may just be the biggest, best basement sale ever for the shop.

After more than a decade operating out of a soaring space on Walnut Street, proprietresses Joan and her daughter Ellen recently moved into The Shops — but only temporarily.

This March or April, a Joan Shepp storefront will open at 1811 Chestnut Street, right across the way from Boyds Philadelphia. With 9,000 square feet of space, an off-street garden and plenty of architectural character, the new space will offer the longstanding boutique an injection of new energy and plenty of room to showcase its fine merchandise.

Thanks to the impending move, this week’s sale promises to offer up even greater deals than in past basement blowouts to make way for a fresh start on Chestnut Street.

See you in the racks.
