Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and it’s time to prepare a celebration in honor of Mom.

Fortunately, scores of Philadelphia restaurants, hotels, parks, historical sites and well-loved public spaces host events for Mother’s Day which falls on Sunday, May 11.

Whether your Mom is looking for a decadent brunch, a charming meal, a shopping extravaganza or an alfresco festival, there’s something for her (and you).

From brunch to dinner, restaurants from Old City to Manayunk and beyond invite families in for a celebratory Mother’s Day meal. For a less traditional celebration, the Art Star Craft Bazaar returns just in time for Mother’s Day with a slew of one-of-a-kind items to boot.

Brunch, Lunch and Dinner

Chez Colette at the Sofitel Hotel: Rittenhouse, 120 S. 17th Street, 215-569-8300, Lunch. From 12:30 to 4 p.m., treat Mom to a decadent lunch buffet at Chez Colette at the Sofitel Hotel. For $55 per person (and half-price for children under the age of 12), indulge in a meal of items from the raw bar, carving station, desserts and more. R2L: Rittenhouse, 50 S. 16th Street, 215-564-5337, Brunch and Dinner. Treat mom to sweeping city views as R2L hosts both a Mother’s Day brunch and dinner. From a 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., feast on an array of buffet-style items like a fruit, shrimp cocktail, cheese and ceviche followed by a decadent entree like Bananas Foster French toast, steak and eggs and eggs Benedict. For dinner, indulge in a three-course meal of menu items like beet and goat cheese salad, lobster bisque, roasted chicken and salmon. Brunch costs $65 for adults and $25 for children under 12 and dinner rings in at $75 for adults and $25 for children under 12; both excluding tax and gratuity.

Square 1682 at the Hotel Palomar: Rittenhouse, 121 S. 17th Street, 215-563-5008, Brunch. Square 1682 offers up its special weekend brunch addition, the Punch Brunch, in celebration of Mother’s Day. For groups over the age of 21, four different brunch entrees are on offer to enjoy while sipping bottomless coffee and enjoying a punch bowl full of an inventive cocktail. Brunch costs $100 total for a group of four.

Pumpkin BYOB: Rittenhouse, 1713 South Street, 215-545-4448, Dinner. Diners, bring a bottle of wine to Pumpkin BYOB, an eatery specializing in local and fresh fare. On Mother’s Day, a seasonal five-course dinner runs $40 per person.

Davio’s: Rittenhouse, 111 S. 17th Street, 215-563-4810, Brunch and Dinner. In addition to its regular menu, Davio’s dishes out a three-course meal featuring a chilled spring pea soup, surf and turf and a selection of desserts for $55 per person plus tax and gratuity.

Bistro St. Tropez: Rittenhouse, 2400 Market Street, 4th Floor, 215-569-9269, Brunch. Take Mom’s taste buds on a trip to France at Bistro St. Tropez’s Mother’s Day brunch. Enjoy three courses of French menu items including a lobster, lemon and goat cheese tart, filet mignon and crème brulée. Brunch rings in at $48 per person plus tax and gratuity and is available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Lounge at the Four Seasons Hotel: Logan Square, 1 Logan Square, 215-963-1500, Brunch. All day long, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Mother’s Day, the Lounge at the Four Seasons Hotel serves up a buffet of salads, omelets, waffles, desserts and freshly-carved meat for $105 for adults and $53 for children ages 5 through 12.

Pennsylvania 6: Midtown Village, 114 S. 12th Street, 267-639-5606, Brunch. With a few special food and drink additions, Pennsylvania 6 in Midtown Village is a solid option for Mother’s Day brunch. Indulge in specials like a strawberry rhubarb crepe, smoked salmon hash and onion and mushroom quiche. Sip festive drink specials like a Bloody Mary made with shrimp, a non-alcoholic berry lemonade and a Sweet Flamingo, a fresh combination of champagne, watermelon and basil.

Valanni: Washington Square West, 1229 Spruce Street, 215-790-9494, Brunch. For $35, raise a glass to the woman who made you who you are today at Valanni’s three-course Mother’s Day brunch. Enjoy an array of fare including Cape May salt oysters, brie and granny smith apple crepe, butter poached lobster omelet, Bananas Foster French toast and berry soup.

The Twisted Tail: Society Hill, 509 S. 2nd Street, 215-558-2471. Enjoy The Twisted Tail’s regular menu offerings on Mother’s Day while Mom is treated to a complimentary box of house-made macaroons and a mini-cheese board.

Ballroom Brunch at The Hotel Monaco: Old City, 433 Chestnut Street, 215-925-2111, Brunch. Put on your Sunday best and head to the Hotel Monaco as it hosts an indulgent brunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Brunch costs $55 for adults and $25 for children 12 and under. A portion of the brunch proceeds benefit Dress for Success Philadelphia.

Hyatt Regency at Penn’s Landing: Old City, 201 S. Columbus Boulevard, 215-521-6509, Brunch. Guests flock to the Columbus Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency at Penn’s Landing for Mother’s Day brunch. For $50 for adults and $25 for children (ages 5 through 12), fill up on a variety of brunch favorites like bananas foster french toast, omelets, hickory-smoked bacon, an assortment of seafood, carved meat and more. The all-you-can-eat buffet wraps up with a hefty dessert offering.

Moshulu: Old City, 401 S. Christopher Columbus Boulevard, 215-923-2500, Brunch. Dine aboard the Moshulu as it serves up a special Mother’s Day brunch complete with a buffet of surf and turf items from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner costs $55 for adults and $25 for children under 12. Top the afternoon off with an unlimited champagne pairing for just $10 more per person.

City Tavern: Old City, 138 S. 2nd Street, 215-413-1443, Brunch. Take Mom on a trip through time as City Tavern serves up a delectable Mother’s Day brunch. Look forward to menu items like Martha Washington’s turkey pot pie, roasted duckling, mushroom barley soup, duck sausage and an array of desserts. Indulge in tried-and-true favorites like French toast, duck fat fries, quiche, eggs Benedict and more at the always-delicious Spruce Hill eatery.

Will BYOB: East Passyunk, 1911 E. Passyunk Avenue, 215-271-7683, Dinner. From Friday, May 9 through Mother’s Day, May 11, Will BYOB promises a four-course prix fixe dinner for all Mother’s Day celebrations. Menu items include yellowfin tuna, asparagus and gem lettuce salad, sweet pea velouté (serve with lobster!), lemon pudding cake and additional options for vegetarians.

Manayunk Brewing Company: Manayunk, 4120 Main Street, 215-482-8222, Brunch. The Orchestra Wives Club supplies brunchers with live jazz this Mother’s Day as Manayunk Brewing Company dishes out a buffet fit for a queen. Groove to the live tunes while noshing on omelets, belgian waffles, freshly-carved meat and a slew of drink pairings. The buffet (sans alcohol) costs $21.95 for adults and $10.95 for children under the age of 10.

Festivals and Events

Mother’s Day Tea Party at the Betsy Ross House: Old City, 239 Arch Street, Saturday, May 10, 4-5:30 pm. Travel back to the olden days as the Betsy Ross House hosts its annual Mother’s Day Tea Party on Saturday, May 10. Fill up on an array of warming teas and treats catered by City Tavern at the historic site’s outdoor courtyard. In addition to sipping and snacking, embark on a tour of the house, too. Tickets are $25 each and reservations are required.

Mother’s Day Brunch at Franklin Square: Old City, 200 N. 6th Street, 215-629-4026, Brunch. Franklin Square, the historic family-friendly park, hosts a Mother’s Day brunch buffet complete with a flower craft, tickets to the on-site carousel and access to the park’s well-loved mini golf course. Tickets are $25 per person.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K: May 11. In honor of mothers (and sisters, daughters and grandmothers) who have fought breast cancer, the Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure turns Eakins Oval at the Philadelphia Museum of Art pink on Sunday, May 11. The race departs from the Art Museum at 7 a.m. and runs its course through the city through noon.

Mother’s Day Tea Ceremony at Shofuso Japanese House and Garden: May 11. Sip green tea and enjoy an authentic sweet treat as the Shofuso Japanese House and Garden in Fairmount Park hosts a Mother’s Day tea ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 for the general public and $30 for members. Pennsylvania Guild Fine Craft Fair at Rittenhouse Square: May 9-11. For Moms who love one-of-a-kind jewelry, furniture, photography, sculptures and clothing, the Pennsylvania Guild Fine Craft Fair returns to Rittenhouse Square for all Mother’s Day shopping needs.

Fitler Square Spring Fair: May 9-10. On Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10, families are invited out to celebrate Fitler Square and the start of the spring season at the Fitler Square Spring Fair. Coinciding with Mother’s Day weekend, the fair brings a silent auction and flea market shopping to the alfresco park, so shopping for Mother’s Day has never been easier.

Art Star Craft Bazaar: May 10-11. Lovers of unique finds descend on the annual Spring Art Star Craft Bazaar, where the handmade goods include housewares, ceramics, clothing, art, paper goods and much more. The weekend-long sale at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing is punctuated with live music, food and art demonstrations all throughout Mother’s Day weekend.

Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens: May 11. The whimsical Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens is a fantastic family-friendly destination any day of the year, but on Sunday, May 11, the sparkling sculpture garden comes to life with Family Jams and make-and-take crafts inspired by renowned Mexican papier-mâché artist Joel Garcia The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. and is free with admission.

Dear Mom at the Penn’s Landing Playhouse in the Independence Seaport Museum: The Penn’s Landing Playhouse celebrates Mother’s Day all month long with Dear Mom, a play inspired by actual letters from daughters to mothers. The play is part-drama, part-comedy and tells real stories about the mother-daughter relationship. The curtain raises for Dear Mom at 2 p.m. on Mother’s Day, making for an ideal after-brunch activity. Tickets are $35 to $45 and are available online.
