Ready to explore Philadelphia’s two waterfronts?

This Saturday, May 31, the Independence Seaport Museum and its partners hosts Walnut2Walnut, a full day of land and water exploration between the Delaware River and the Schuylkill River.

A three-on-one event, there’s an opportunity for just about anyone to join in the aquatic-themed adventure, be it on a scavenger hunt from the Schuylkill River to the Delaware River, a 15.26-mile regatta in non-motorized boats pr a three-mile stroll down Walnut Street. All events incorporate both the Schuylkill River waterfront and the Delaware River waterfront.

Read on for more info on participating in the Walnut2Walnut challenge and check right here to register now.

The Regatta

The regatta begins at 9:30 a.m. and is open to boat-owners and non-owners and incorporates kayaks and row boats — really anyone who owns or rents a seafaring vessel can join in.

Participants can choose between a competitive or recreational division, and both races begin at the Schuylkill Banks.

Registration is required for all regatta participants, whether bringing an owned boat or renting, and more information and registration can be found right here.

The Scavenger Hunt

The scavenger hunt begins at 11 a.m. and invites groups of registered participants to solve maritime-themed challenges throughout the city.

Participants in groups of two to four will only be allowed to run, walk or use public transportation to complete the hunt — no driving or cabbing — but all participants will be given a day pass for SEPTA.

The first three teams to solve all the problems and cross the finish line at the museum will win a prize.

The Saturday Stroll

The most casual of the three events, the walk begins at 11:30 a.m. and is non-competitive.

Participants simply make their way down Walnut Street from the Schuylkill River to the Delaware River.

All events cumulate at a post-event barbecue and celebration at the Independence Seaport Museum’s Workshop on the Water, and all participants receive discounts in the museum gift shop.

Each of the three events vary in price: The walk costs $35, the scavenger hunt rings in at $55 and the regatta varies depending on the number of people participating and the type of boat that guests need. Click here for full price information.

Registration is required and is available online, and all events are rain or shine.
