The Philadelphia International Tango Festival returns for its fourth year of high-spirited dance at locations across the city.
Presented by the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School, the festival runs all Memorial Day weekend long — May 23 through 26 — and celebrates the dynamic art of Argentine tango.
Argentine tango is heavily improvisational which will be showcased at performances and practices throughout the festival.
The festival ushers in tango maestros from Argentina for authentic shows and lessons, in addition to renowned DJs to provide the music. Ruba Club plays host to a number of tango lessons taught by the master instructors for dancers of all levels and the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School in Fishtown hosts a number of daytime workshops, too.
Advance registration for lessons and workshops is now closed, but most classes have at the door registration available. Classes vary in cost, but start at just $7. Click here for more information about class pricing and availability.
Beginners who are looking to learn the ins and outs of tango are encouraged to take part in the Absolute Beginner Track, which is exclusive to the weekend-long festival. Learn basic tango steps, lingo and improvisation at the four-day event.
Also look forward to daily yoga lessons to stretch out before a day of dancing, tango dance parties and performances until the wee hours of the night at Ruba Club and much more.
