Listen up, outdoor movie lovers (i.e. everyone).

The Awesome Fest returns for the summer with free movie nights at multiple locations all across Philadelphia.

Expect eight weeks of rocking good times as The Awesome Fest takes the theme of “The Soundtrack of Awesome” this year, a rock and roll theme featuring a slew of music-centric films and performances.

Over the course of the summer, expect screenings of feature films, yet-to-be-released blockbusters, independent films, well-loved classics, discussions with folks from the biz, concerts and much more.

Get ready for an awesome summer.

The Awesome Fest at Wizard World Comic Con

The Awesome Fest kicks off with a presence at Wizard World Comic Con, which is in town from June 19 through 22.

Guests of the perfectly-nerdy event will be treated to a variety of screenings throughout the duration of the event, most of which are included in the price of Comic Con tickets.

The Karate Kid is the first of the more than a dozen Wizard World Comic Con screenings. On Thursday, June 19 at 5:30 p.m., watch a special 30th-anniversary edition of the film and hear from cast members Ralph Macchio and Martin Kove in a post-movie question and answer session.

Over the four-day event, also look forward to a number of Philadelphia premieres, panels, discussions with members of the biz and more.

City Gardens Retrospective

As the official opening of the 2014 season of The Awesome Fest, the folks behind the festival team up with This is Hardcore, a hardcore punk festival that is annually held in Philadelphia, for a City Gardens Retrospective.

The two-day event, on June 25 and 26, raises a hat to the now shuttered City Gardens, a punk music venue in Trenton, New Jersey, with concerts and the premiere of Riot on the Dance Floor, a film about City Gardens. The premiere will be completely free and will take place in Clark Park in West Philly.
