Beginning on Friday, June 13, guests to the Kennett Square attraction are invited to explore the newest outdoor garden which promises three miles of walking and hiking trails, colorful fields of wildflowers, the historic Webb Farmhouse and Galleries and four learning pavilions.
During opening weekend, June 13 through 15, enjoy guided hikes, nature seek-and-find for children, discussions with staff members and much more. The festivities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. all three days this weekend.
The new experience shows guests how meadows have evolved since the 1700s and the importance of nature conservation efforts.
The Webb Farmhouse, a staple of the garden since the 1700s, features two galleries — the first showcases the meadow during all four seasons and the second features the people who inhabited the meadow over time.
Throughout the garden, expect visits from wildlife including deer, butterflies, birds, beavers, bees and more in addition to bridges that cross numerous water sources on the grounds. Meadow Garden also boasts an elevated boardwalk, which takes 15-minutes to cross, for different views of the landscape.
Also look forward to a variety of horticulture throughout the expansive grounds — wildflowers, fragrant blooms, woodland trees and much more.
All throughout the year, Longwood Gardens hosts special tours and meadow appreciation days for folks of all ages to explore the new landscape. For more information on upcoming events at the meadow garden, click here.
Access to Meadow Garden is included in the price of general admission. Guests are encouraged to wear walking shoes and appropriate apparel as the terrain is naturally uneven.
