On the first day of 2015, the entire city of Philadelphia brims with festive energy thanks to the Mummers Parade on Broad Street and the thousands of New Year’s Day revelers out to watch the escapades.
At the center of the on-street action, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts makes a perfect spot to duck indoors and warm up.
Fortunately, the Kimmel Center throws open its doors to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a day of free live music and family-friendly programming.
In Commonwealth Plaza, spectators can take a break from the parade to enjoy free crafts, face painting, balloon animals and live music throughout the day. Plus, visitors can mark the resolution wall with their 2015 goals.
On Tier 1, a free hot chocolate bar complete with marshmallows warms up guests. On Tier 2, guests can opt for a dining option to score spectacular views of the Mummer’s Parade from the Broad Street Balcony.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tier 2 hosts an all-you-can-eat brunch spread from Garces Catering with stations inspired by the menus at such Garces Restaurants as Village Whiskey and Distrito. An all-you-can eat and drink option includes the buffet and an open bar for $49 per person; or, there is an under-21 non-alcoholic option for $25 per person.
Reservations for brunch are available online, but brunch walk-ups will be accepted (based upon availability)for $55 at the door.
