Alla Spina Uncorks “Not” Wine Week During Philly Wine Week 2015, Running This Sunday, March 22 To March 29

While the rest of the city indulges in the traditional beverages of Philly Wine Week, Alla Spina takes a different track.

Starting on Sunday, March 22, Marc Vetri’s Italian gastropub will be offering its “Not” Wine Week. Celebrating grapey goodness in all its forms — vermouth, amaro, madeira, sherry — the bar will be doling them out in $5 pours all week.

Cider lovers shan’t despair — those $5 specials include them as well. And for die-hard winos, there will also be $5 pours of the white, red and pink stuff.

The lineup of special events includes the Cocchi Happy Hour with Mark Monaco of Palateur Imports on Tuesday, March 24, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., investigating the joys of vermouth.

Later that evening (starting at 6:30 p.m.) David McDuff (Bowler Wines)faces off against Jonny Medlinkski (Khyber Pass Pub)for a wine versus beer Cage Match for $65 per person.

A second such faceoff takes place on Wednesday, this time between Brendan Hartranft (Memphis Taproom et al) and Jason Malumed (Chalkboard Wine & Spirits).

Then on Thursday, Christopher Bates master sommelier and owner of FLX Wienery in Dundee, NY, takes over with a pop-up.
