A Guide To Earth Day In Philadelphia 2015: Special Events, Lessons, Clean-Ups And More April 18-25

Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22 and there are a ton of ways to show popular parks and outdoor sights in Philly some love.

It’s easy being green! Honor Mother Nature every day, and especially on Earth Day — Wednesday, April 22 — with a ton of green-themed events in Philadelphia.

The holiday may fall on a Wednesday, but the Earth Day happenings continue through the weekend, too. Major attractions like the National Constitution Center and Adventure Aquarium are set to teach folks about how being green relates to the exhibitions in their museums, the Schuylkill Banks will host a clean up day and Yards will team up with Tree Philly to give away free trees and beer.

Run For Clean Air

Saturday, April 18. The Run For Clean Air, hosted by the Clean Air Council, returns with a 5K run, a 3K walk, a kid’s fun run and a new-to-this-year 10K run. The event starts at the Philadelphia Museum of Art at 8:30 a.m. and follows a path past the Schuylkill Banks so athletes can take in Mother Nature’s beauty. MORE INFO

National Constitution Center

Wednesday, April 22. Learn about how being green relates to the Constitution at the National Constitution Center’s Earth Day celebration. Access to the fun is included in the price of museum admission. For those who can’t make it to the museum, tune in to a special Earth Day edition of its Constitution Hall Pass series. MORE INFO

Adventure Aquarium

Wednesday, April 22. Head to the Adventure Aquarium for a full day of green demonstrations, activities and lessons. Learn how to help preserve the environment — including our oceans — for future generation. Also at the event, learn about the importance of the monarch butterfly from New Jersey Audubon Society. Citizens Bank Park

Wednesday, April 22. Cheer on the home team and celebrate Mother Nature at the Phillies’ Earth Day event at Citizens Bank Park. The fun starts before tonight’s game with a shopping area featuring local green vendors, sustainability workshops, recycling tips and more. Earth Day events also continue through the game, too. Earth Day Clean Up at the Schuylkill Banks

Wednesday, April 22. Help clean up the city’s much-loved Schuylkill River Trail and celebrate the release of Sly Fox’s brand-new beer, Schuylkill River Trail Ale at an Earth Day event at the river’s banks by the Walnut Street bridge. A portion of the beer’s proceeds will benefit the Schuylkill River Trail. The cleanup will run from noon to 2 p.m., and the tapping will take place at London Grill from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. MORE INFO

Schuylkill River Trail Ale Release Party at World Cafe Live

Wednesday, April 22. Raise a glass to the brand-new Schuylkill River Trail Ale by Sly Fox Brewing Company at a release party at World Cafe Live. Be one of the first to taste the seasonal ale while also helping to beautify and keep up the banks along the Schuylkill River from Pottstown to Philadelphia. The party starts at 6 p.m. MORE INFO

One Man’s Trash at Faimount Water Works

Wednesday, April 22. Opening on Earth Day, Fairmount Water Works hosts One Man’s Trash, an exhibition by Bradley Maule made up of pieces of trash from Maule’s year-long mission to collect trash throughout Fairmount Park. The trash he found is arranged in unexpected ways throughout the exhibition, which is free and open to the public through June 26. MORE INFO

Wednesday, April 22. Beginning at 10 a.m., Chestnut Hill College hosts a slew of open-to-the-public Earth Day events like film screenings about green subjects, a tree planting event, shopping from vendors, a selection from Weavers Way Co-op and more. MORE INFO

Wednesday, April 22. Instead of its regular brunch-only menu, Vegan Commissary is serving up a four-course dinner for $45 per person plus tax and gratuity in celebration of Earth Day. Greensgrow Farms

Wednesday, April 22. Help get Greensgrow Farms in tip-top shape at an Earth Day cleanup event at the Fishtown urban farm from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The folks at the farm are looking for help with agriculture, horticulture and carpentry, so sign up to beautify the public space for spring and summer. Yards ArBrew Day

Arbor Day Family Day at Morris Arboretum

Naturepalooza at the Schuylkill Center

Saturday, April 25. As part of the Philadelphia Science Festival, the Schuylkill Center hosts Naturepalooza, a full day of live music, nature walks, crafts and more. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is completely free. MORE INFO

NarbEarth Day

Saturday, April 25. The town of Narberth celebrates Earth Day with a family-friendly festival complete with natural fair, a silent auction, book sale, plant sale live music and more. Also learn general wellness, gardening, green energy and recycling from an array of on-site vendors. MORE INFO
