In the fabulous new tradition of adapting cult films into modern musicals comes the latest national Broadway touring production to hit a Philadelphia stage, Kinky Boots.

Adapted from a 2005 independent English film, the Broadway smash opens for a two-week run at the Forrest Theatre this week, playing April 28 through May 10.

A hugely popular hit — the show won six Tony Awards in 2013 — the talented team behind the curtain includes four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein and the iconic Grammy Award-winning rocker Cyndi Lauper, along with Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell as director and choreographer.

Inspired by a true story, the tale of Kinky Boots follows the unlikely friendship of traditional English shoemaker Charlie Price, who inherited his father’s failing shoe factory, and daring drag queen Lola, who requires sturdier stilettos for performing.

The hilarious and high-energy show includes joyful tunes and dynamic dancing, and projects an incredibly positive message about individuality, community and, ultimately, acceptance.

Tickets for Broadway Philadelphia shows range from $55 to $115 and are available online.

Following Kinky Boots, just one more Broadway show will make a stop in Philadelphia this season. Look out for Disney’s The Lion King May 20 to June 14 at the Academy of Music.

Don’t miss this kicky stage show!
