First came Rocky, then came Invincible. Now, Sons of Ben: The Movie joins the ranks as the next great Philadelphia underdog sports story.
This hometown film depicts the journey of Philly’s most passionate soccer fans, the Sons of Ben, who stopped at nothing in their goal to help bring a Major League Soccer franchise — the Philadelphia Union — to our city.
To celebrate the movie, the producers will host a red carpet premiere on Wednesday, June 10 at the Trocodero Theatre. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a special happy hour with Yards Brewing Company — makers of the Sons of Ben Rowdy Ale — and the film starts promptly at 7:30 p.m.
Movie fans who want to hang out with VIPs can reserve a spot at the after-party, where there will be entertainment, special guests, celebrity appearances and food from some of the city’s best eateries.
Tickets are on sale now and start at $17 for a seat at the screening. The price goes up to $40 for viewers who also want to attend the after-party.
Sons of Ben: The Movie has already made international headlines. The film won the Grand Prix at the Tokyo International Football Film Festival, was declared a “must-see” at Berlin’s 11mm International Football Film Festival, and screened at the Thinking Football Film Festival in Bilbao, Spain, and the Offside Festival in Barcelona.
If you’re looking for a more low-key experience, the movie also opens at the Ritz East on the same night.
